Volkswagen adds hot diesel GTD to Golf range
The new VW Golf GTD looks to provide impressive performance while having a range in excess of 650 miles
The Golf GTD shares the looks of the recently released Golf GTI, yet under the bonnet in the GTD is an efficient 2.0-litre TDI engine with 170hp and an impressive 350Nm of torque.
This means that the oil-burning Golf can get from 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds and will go on to a top speed of 136mph. But the more important figure for a diesel is that the GTD has a combined fuel economy figure of 53.3mpg.
Handling is improved with suspension lowered by an additional 15mm and you can even spec VW's excellent Adaptive Chassis Control allowing you to select the normal, comfort or sport mode to adapt the GTD’s responses.
The Golf GTD will go on sale at the end of June with prices starting ‘under £22,000’.
