Volvo EX30 now even cheaper thanks to new £33k Core model
New Volvo EX30 Core drops the small EV’s starting price by over £2,000, still gets plenty of kit
- New Core trim level for Volvo EX30
- Up to 295 miles of range
- Priced from £32,850
The Volvo EX30 lineup has grown one model larger with the introduction of the new entry-level ‘Core’ trim level. Costing from £32,850, the latest EX30 arrives just in time to take on the new Kia EV3, a similarly-sized EV that will also cost from under £33,000.
The Core trim level is used throughout the Volvo range to denote its entry-level models. The EX30 was already the most affordable Volvo on sale, but the introduction of this latest trim level drops its starting price further, ensuring that it remains competitive in an ever-expanding small electric SUV market.
What do I need to know about the Volvo EX30 Core?
From the outside, the Volvo EX30 Core doesn’t look any different to its pricier siblings, aside from its body-coloured roof spoiler and wing mirrors (other models get black-painted items). It’s a similar story inside – you won’t spot any changes other than the missing ambient lighting across the dashboard.
The £2,300 price gap between the EX30 Core and the mid-tier Plus model is accounted for by a slightly less generous kit list. While the pricier model gets niceties such as two-zone air conditioning, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, front parking sensors, a powered tailgate and a Harman Kardon sound system, the Core model makes do without.
However, you still get adaptive cruise control, a Google-based infotainment system, a rear parking camera, 18-inch wheels and denim upholstery.
The other difference lies in the electric motor setup. Core models aren’t available with the 422bhp dual-motor powertrain, with buyers instead having to choose between regular Single Motor and Single Motor Extended Range models. The former uses a 51kWh battery for a range of up to 209 miles, while the latter brings a 69kWh battery and a 295-mile range. Extended Range cars also benefit from a heat pump at no extra cost.
How much does the Volvo EX30 cost and when can I buy one?
Prices start from £32,850 for the regular Volvo EX30 Core equipped with the Single Motor powertrain. Upgrading to the Extended Range model adds £4,200 to the bill. Both are available to order now and Volvo expects the first cars to arrive in the autumn.
