The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet combine the luxury of the S-Class saloon with the capability of the G-Class SUV

It also has a convertible roof over the rear portion of the car

That combination of features makes it unique, and it's also rare: just 99 examples will be built

While those in the rear can enjoy open-air thrills, the front seats are covered by a fixed roof

The landaulet body style harks back to the era of horse-drawn carriages, where the driver would be exposed to the elements

As well as luxury, the G650 Landaulet should also be incredibly capable off road, thanks to its 450mm ground clearance 

The roof folds down electronically, naturally, leaving the rear seats open to the elements

Power comes from a 621bhp twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 engine

The Landaulet's rear seats come from the Mercedes S-Class, and can be fully reclined 

No word on price yet, but expect a figure of several hundred thousand pounds 

Even if you can afford the Landaulet, you'll have to venture overseas if you want one: it won't be offered in the UK

As well as a vast ground clearance, the G650 Landaulet also has three differential locks, which should make it indomitable 

Mercedes says the Landaulet's roof allows occupants to enjoy a “majestic open-air experience”.
