Mercedes SLK 55 AMG

Mercedes has released prices for the SLK 55 AMG - which starts at £54,950. The new model sits at the top of the SLK roadster range and is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 engine that produces 421bhp, driving the rear wheels.

The SLK 55 AMG is fitted with a seven-speed automatic gearbox and offers drivers three modes - Controlled Efficiency, Sport and Manual. Acceleration is very strong. The two-door roadster can sprint from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155mph.

The flagship SLK features the same folding metal roof used on the rest of the SLK range.

The SLK 55's engine uses 30 per cent less fuel than the previous model, thanks to a cylinder management system that shuts off part of the engine when running on small throttle inputs. Mercedes' Formula One engines use a similar system. The SLK 55 AMG roadster also features stop/start, and as a result returns 33.6mpg and emits 195g/km of CO2.

Both comfort and safety equipment are generous, the SLK AMG features many Mercedes AMG performance parts as standard. Customers are also offered the AMG Performance Package and AMG Driver's Package, which improves handling and top speed.
