Extremely practical, versatile, comfortable and luxurious old school Land Rover that looks like nothing else on the road. Mine was purchased as an ex “Land Rover Management” car, at a year old, with 12,000 miles on the clock, late in 2016, to replace a very similar 35,000 / 2015 registered car. It developed a fault with the high pressure fuel pump, which took Land Rover a month to diagnose and eventually fix. By way of making amends for my, relatively minor, inconvenience Land Rover offered me a substantial contribution towards trading it for any new LR of my choice! With the Discovery 4 no longer in production and no adequate direct replacement being built, I moved to a full sized Range Rover - enabling me to keep the split tailgate, commanding driving position, big and deep windowed glasshouse and the ability to see all four corners from the driving seat appeal of the Disco 4.

Only 8 and a bit months (and 21,500 miles) in and this car is proving a big hit! The interior space, the large glass area (with a superb view) combined with the ability to see all four corners and place the car accurately are all superb. Alongside this, the car is very quiet and comfortable, has a boot like a Transit van (complete with fabulous split tailgate and asymmetric rear window - the dog loves that!), has brilliant air suspension and is as unstoppable off road as anyone could reasonably wish for. The 8-speed gearbox is a delight and matches the glorious 3.0 V6 diesel brilliantly. Some call it dated, but I like the way it looks like a modern take on the Defender shape and that it couldn't be confused with anything else on the road. While it's a delight to drive and the V6 pulls incredibly strongly, this is not a car for those that want the image of a 4x4, but are looking for the driving experience of a rather more dull and anemic executive saloon or hatchback. This one feels like your driving the real thing and long may that continue! The build quality is superb and it even makes my old Volvo V70's seem a bit flimsy! Downsides? There's no getting away from the fuel consumption of 27-28mpg and if you are the kind that intend to cruse at Autobahn speeds then this car is out of its comfort zone. It's also a physically large car which can be an issue on narrow lanes and in a lot of car parking spaces. Would I buy another? In a heart beat! In fact, with it about to end production, the only problem it presents me with is what I would ever replace it with!

My first time with the Land Rover brand, moving from Audi after some 18yrs and I cannot say how much I love this vehicle. There is no other vehicle that will do what the Discovery will do in one package, a fantastic smooth ride quality with a great driving position and commanding view of the road ahead, it really is like sitting in an armchair on the move. It has an interior to rival many luxury vehicles with great levels of standard equipment and materials that are also first class. I have owned my Discovery from new and have not experienced any of the electrical problems that many people speak of, it has been faithful for almost 2yrs now. Fuel economy is typically between 30mpg around town & 34 mpg when I am traveling on a long run which I think is really good for a vehicle of this size. I have got 26,000 miles from my current tyres which still have 3mm left on the front and 5mm on the rear, that is not to be complained about. I love the overall comfort, driving position of my Discovery and now know that I will be with Land Rover for many more years.

The best all round car i have owned - and i've had many. The discovery can go anywhere (with the right tyres - general grabber ats - almost literally - mud, rivers, deep snow or ice), lug or tow anything and is amazingly comfortable and luxurious (in the d4 guise at least)! It has low fuel consumption - something one accepts when one buys a car weighing 2.7 tonnes - it's never going to be economical. This is totally outweighed by the amazing all round ability. It has been to the dealer once for a warranty claim - when the third party manufactured fuel burning heater stopped working. Apart from that it's very reliable.

Traded in my range rover sport for a discovery 4,its just amazing, the best car i own, this is the car i use every day (i have 4 other cars, a defender 110. An audi a8, a bentley arnage and a 911 turbo) it has delivered on every level and i would only ever consider replacing it with another discovery, put simply, its the best car in the world, bar none!

Having been previously very satisfied with the two mk3 discovery’s that i owned i felt it difficult to believe that they could be improved upon. I was wrong however as the mk4 i now run, with improved performance, handling, quietness and upgraded cabin, is considerably better and i very pleased with it.

Highly likeable, spacious, practical, tough, smooth riding and different from virtually everything else out there! Superb view, not only from the driver's seat, but for all 6 passengers too. The combination of adjustable air suspension, a proper split tailgate and a massive square and flat floored load bay, turn this car into one of the best load carriers ever made. It's brilliant for those with full size dogs! It's been reliable (don't believe all of the career doom mongers out there) and the running costs have been fair considering just how capable the car is. Sure, 27mpg is not for the feint hearted, but buy your parts and service right and the costs really aren't too bad.

As practical as a small transit van, 7 full size seats, a superb view out in all directions, smooth, comfortable, extremely reliable, well made and beatifully fitted out inside. Immensely capable off road and for towing loads. Impossible to confuse with anything else on the road. Service costs fair so far, fuel consumption predictably high, but depreciation surprisingly low. Dealer service patchy, spoiled by misleading reports of wear on brake to discs & pads and wiper blades (and a subsequent quote for £380 worth of completely unnecessary replacement parts on an 10 month old car) along with promises made and not kept. The score of 5 stars is for the car alone, not dealer service.

Before this car, I was almost scared of driving. Since this car, I love driving! For the driver, it's comfortable. Sitting high helps to relax you when on long drives. For the passengers, it's so big that five adults wouldn't feel squeezed at all travelling with lots of luggage on an eight hour trip. It can carry seven adults on a night out, or almost the content of an entire room when the back seats are down. It's so versatile on and off the road, as a people carrier or a van. With parking sensors and camera, it's no more difficult to park than an old family car without such technology. Overall I'm a big fan and am very glad that we bought this truck!

The only problem that has occoured was due to a microswitch on the bonnet that had not been pushed home and after a very bumpy cross country ride showed up on the dash layout. this was fixed in under 30 seconds by landrover assist. this car was a replacement for discovery 3 and has proved far superior in every way. the only shame is that there is no v8 diesel as an option

The car does everything expected of it and instills confidence when the weather takes a turn for the worse. It could be slightly better through the corners if the roll could be controlled better, my previous discovery 3 handled better.Designers Should spend more time living with the vehicles they design and fine tuning the interiors and storage areas.Despite These slight grumbles it is an excellent vehicle if a bit hungry for fuel.

Very safe had a non fault accident in previous discovery only car in pile up to drive away other cars destroyed.excellent tow vehicle brilliant in snow - it kept our local district nursing service operating in deep snow .FUEL Consumption if driven carefully around 34 mpg on a long run 26/27 mpg locally - a mini cooper s would not be more economical
