no major issues...boot lock/switch failed just after i purchased it at 2 years old.Seems to "kangaroo" at low speeds in 1st/2nd gear ...mazda garage could find no fault...also arm rest moves forward on its own??

I would have another, but they now do not make a 2 litre diesel only a 2.2 Which means l am unable to purchase another, Shame Great car

Very reliable, engaging and smooth to drive. No problems in 7 years of ownership. Bought petrol version in view of DPF problems. Body kit makes it more attractive IMHO. Mazda dealers prices a bit high, but always serviced by them.

Dealer's 12 month warranty. Brake pad worn to shoe on disc within 3 months after taking ownership. Batteries failed in key fobs. Puncture repair fluid expired 5 months before taking ownership.

The worst car I have ever owned. Lovely lines but it ends there! DPF problems and injectors from the start. Boot opener failed, Alloys bubbled (and new set also). Runs a smooth as a tractor. New DPF failed after 2 weeks and broke down on M5, £660. Plus £500 for DPF and possibly needing EGR valve (another £300), looks like scrap value after only 6 years (full service history and lovingly cared for). Mazda should be named and shamed, utter rubbish!

I recently presented my car to my Mazda garage to have the DPF warning light reset, I was informed that the particle filter was OK but the light was linked to the odometer and set to come on at a preset number of miles. This is not stated in the manual. The reason appears to be that it coincides with service miles (set by Mazda), so there is no problem with the DPF and to get the DPF reset cost me £70, just to have the light turned off! Further, to replace a defective boot lid micro switch I was quoted £92 plus labour, a micro switch would be lucky if it cost a couple of quid, what a rip-off. Will I buy another- no chance.

Bought this ex-motobility at 9K miles and it is now at 22K. Excellent car in all respects and what I expected, having had its predecessor (a 626 v6) that proved bulletproof with a single annual service. I ran it up to 140K! Reluctantly cashed it in for scrappage allowance. I have had some strange events with the alarm going off when refuelling. But I do lock the car when out of it. Original battery needed replacing before its third birthday. Heavy outside edge wear on front tyres but otherwise tyres would have gone for 30K+. Clutch is a bit fierce until you get used to it. Massive space when the seats are down - room for a sofa if you need to. Excellent on-road manners and performance in all conditions. Had 2 replacement windscreens - one to unknown cause and one to a large stone thrown up by car going in the other direction on a country road. Inside is a bit cheap looking but durable - decent door pockets that will hold a bottle of water. Boot is massive and can take a baby buggy and associated kit and a dog too! No sat nav on mine but as I am a bloke who knows where most places are, no problem. In-car entertainment a bit feeble but it all works. Steering wheel cruise controls and radio all work properly. Horn needs a heavy press so you cannot just beep! Servicing is cheap if you use an independent that you trust. These platinum-plated spark plugs last till 36K, mine told me. I would have another under similar circumstances - no regrets buying Mazda!

A couple of minor faults. Electric mirror switch replaced under warranty. Drivers key fell apart (jackknife part fell out and was lost - cost Ł80 to replace and re-program)

Generally pleased apart from the problems caused by the diesel particulate filter - i.e. using up fuel when it cleans the filter and also the issues with the oil level rising when the unused extra diesel is pushed into the sump. May return to petrol again next time

I concur with Mark of Coventry regarding DPF light flashing at service miles. I was informed by my local Mazda dealer that this is built-in to the engine management programme and has nothing to do with the PDF malfunctioning, it's simply to get you to take it to Mazda for servicing. Cost of service approx £200, cost to reset the flashing PDF light approx £80. Yes, just to switch a light off that should never have come on in the first place. The light should flash to indicate a genuine PDF problem. Replacement (caused by water ingress) boot micro switch garage priced £92 plus labour, I bought one for £44 (typical micro switch prices are around a fiver). Mazda is an absolute RIP-OFF.

I have owned this car from new. Generally this is an excellent family car, rear space and large boot are excellent too. Road holding on this model is better than my 626 GSi but the 6 speed gear ratios are too short and this impairs acceleration. The local dealer was very good until the parts manager retired. The brakes need replacing after 73,000 miles.
