I love the shape, ride, comfort and performance of my SL500 but absolutely hate the constant problems and expense caused by MB inability to build a leak free car. The boot is constantly soaking leading to numerous failings in pumps and electrics and the cabin is also wet on occasions resulting to problems with the electronics. Unfortunately I couldn't recommend this car unless only stored and driven in the dry.

This is my 3rd Mercedes SL that I have owned.The first 2 were 350 SL's with the 3.7 litre engine and they were 2004 and 2005 vehicles. My latest car is a 500 SL with the 5.5 lire V8 engine and has just 25 k miles on the clock. I have had the usual problems of water leaking into boot which necessitated a new PSE pump in the 2005 car and problems which necessitated a new consumer battery in both of the SL 350 cars. Nothwithstnding this I found them to be excellent cars and a pleasure to drive with the added bonus of being able to lower the metal roof in just 16 seconds and enjoy convertible motoring when the weather allowed. The 500SL is the best car I have ever owned and that includes An Aston Martin and a number of BMW M5's. It transforms from a magnificent Cruiser to a powerful sportscar at the press of a few buttons and the 2nd generation Active Body Control ensures that driver and passenger are cosseted in the beautiful interior.
