My wife and I bought our x trail t31 about 5 years ago. The car was bought for a mixed usage, towing, etc , it even pulls our chain harrows around at our stables. Its good on fuel, reasonably quiet, well appointed and has been very reliable until one day I went to start it using the keyless ignition. The engine started to turn then the battery ran down, what happened next is unbelievable. It would not jump start, so the battery was removed and charged, still no starting on keyless ignition. To cut a long story short the car will only start using the key. The car has been to the agents, so far it's looking like it needs a 'BCM' module (over £500) also its possible it needs another module at over £600 plus fitting and programming. The X-Trail t31 is a very good car, but my advice is change your battery sooner rather than later. Any hints your battery on the way out don't try to start it. A man I know near me did the same and it destroyed the ECU (over £1,500 to fix). To sum up, good car but keep an eye on that battery.

I bought an 11-Plate model that was a couple of years old. I was actually looking for a Freelander 2 and because of the desired specification it needed to be an HSE; the Nissan pretty much matches the Freelander option-for-option but is £8-9K cheaper for similar age and mileage. Also, the poor readability reports (even little things are not acceptable when a car is relied upon) on the Freelander and its poor mpg figures further put me off. The Nissan is a capable 4x4 (with a diff-lock and hill decent) and it didn’t let me down on a recent ski trip. The styling is perhaps a little old-fashion but is similar to the Freelander and I like the non-fussy (non-Korean jelly-mould) look. The Nissan is I would suggest, a great “real-world” car; It copes with the dual-carriage way / B-road commute and on a long journey is comfortable and returns 45 mpg plus at motorway speeds. Oh, and the Bose audio is really quite good. Cons: Rear legroom space isn’t great; it’s a shame the back seat doesn’t slide because the luggage area is massive and could give some space up. The engine is a little rough at idle. No DAB radio. In summary, the X-Trail is a “Japanese Freelander” that is better value, cheaper to run and pretty much as capable off road. This is not a comprise but actually the better choice.

I bought this as I need the facility of 4 wheel drive especially in winter....Shogun, Discovery, et al too big and didn't want a "crossover". Only complaints are rear road noise and a somewhat agricultural engine...last car was a Merc CLS. I expect Nissan reliability and modern Qashqai build as constructed on same line. Great comfort on long journey and excellent 'box...shows benefits of lengthy build life. Some odd design touches eg parcel cover set-up. Dash suits nature of the car with good visibility due to medium height and squarish profile.

Been a good workhorse to date.. but has been serviced regularly. Would have bought another , but recent model update has removed a lot of the things that are good about the car from an owners point of view i.e; running strips to prevent door damage,powerpoints for accessories on board, seat arrangement for flat loading, etc

The xtrail is relaible, relatively simple compared to most modern cars, is well built, comfortable, has simple to use and effective 4-wheel drive and performs well in adverse weather and road conditions.

It is good car for this price range. You cannot get fully loaded at this price. There is bit of problem on the electrics and sat nav . The sat nav is not very user friendly but over all it is a good car to have

Excellent all round vehicle which i have been delighted with. A lot of space for large dogs, shopping etc. but not a heavy vehicle to handle as regards parking etc.and for everyday journeys, if there had been an automatic diesel engine when buying i would have had one so would consider that next time.

After 25000 miles in 18 months ,we have absolutely no doubts that our choice was correct. During the current winter conditions we did a number of long journeys ,without any worries about getting to our destination. Our only concern regards the particulate filter,this seems to be a problem {not encountered by us} on short journeys.

Very comfortable, reasonably economical. The niggle is the heating system. During cold weather it takes 6/7 miles to warm the interior. The electric heated seats are an essential.

In the main my vehicle is used as a tow car. Towing weight it approximately 1500 kg. Tmrw is approximately 3000 kg. This is usually in europe any where from norway to portugal, belgium to croatia and all countries in between. In looks, style, cabin comfort is super, inside rear carrying capacity is fantastic, fuel economy it is fantastic. Having owned a number of 4x4 in the past twenty years i have found this the best. Down side :- it could do with a low range gears while being used in 4x4 drive mode. This could be an option at first, to see what the purchase response was.

It has lived up to my expectations easy to drive both on and off road. Niggles the secondary contolls are not as easy to use as previous cars. Computer clock not easy to read at night. Headlights do not return to dip when ignition is switched off combined with automatic lights means that lights can come on at main beam.

This car does exactly what it is meant to do, my one ane only gripe is you cannot switch the airflow to recirculate when you leave the car. This would stop the windscreen misting up on the inside overnight.
