Typically logical as most scandinavian products are. A great alternative choice to the usual german brands. Its a great size for those that want a bit of understated saloon style but still want to fit the spaces in the supermarket car park.

I'm more than happy with it. It's stylish and above all safe. I'd certainly purchase another. Overall i rate it very highly. Volvos are certainly not old men cars !!

Ive been very happy with the performance and reliablity of the car, and the interior and extrior trims. My only niggle would be the fuel consumtion which is far from great.

Never had a mechanical issue with it whether when it is in for service or on a journey which has required me to call for break down service, since ownership of the car.

This car has been really good. Apart from the usual things tyres, wiperblades etc. the only thing I have had to do to it is front and rear brake shoes, an exhaust hanger replaced, and a set of heater plugs, and in the near future will need a set of rear brake discs. No matter what the weather summer or winter I heat it and always starts the first time every time.

Overall its been ok however at 120,000 miles the DP filter went and cost Ł1200 to replace and repair the damage to the cooling system, other then that its been ok and just been wear and tear maintenance.

The car has done 53K miles and as far as I'm aware nothing has failed on it.

My car is reliable, comfortable, looks good but is heavy on fuel and has poor acceleration. Otherwise i love it and intend to keep it until it is no longer economical to run.

Early days, but it is comfortable and safe. Current model has better, sharper styling than my prevoius 2002 model. Interior improvements are also good

90k miles on the clock and not a single electrical or mechanical fault. Car has been flawless since I bought it. I've replaced consumables only, tyres, bulbs etc. Cheap as chips to run. Got 58mpg on smooth French motorways.

I am very pleased with mynew volvo and since a bad accident in 1984 have always had a volvo as they are highly rated for safety

Great to drive, cheap to run, looks good, and will last for about 20 years if we want it to (my last volvo was 23 years old with over 180000 miles when we scrapped it to buy the s40 we have now).

My car has the style, feel and look as an executive one. Its has a very good spec and a pleasure to drive. I would cetainly buy another volvo for all these reason including the peace of mind on the safety of the car.

My s40 has proved to be a better car than i expected. Solid, well made, comfortable and economical, averaging at 39 mpg for the 1.6 petrol. The dealer - smw belfast - is slightly expensive for servicing but they are first rate. I have never had to make a return visit after servicing or repair. You get what you pay for. The brake problem was an electronic abs/ esp control unit which failed at 17,000 miles. Warranty had expired by almost 6 months and volvo uk covered the full cost of the part and labour due to the full service history and low miles. Very impressive as they had no obligation to pay anything. Overall the volvo experience has been excellent. Definitely a quality product backed up by an excellent dealer.
