Citroën Grand C4 SpaceTourer MPV (2013-2022) - Reliability & safety

The five-seat Citroen C4 SpaceTourer put in an improved showing in our 2020 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, coming 28th out of 75 cars, but it didn’t feature in the 2021 survey and Citroen as a brand came in a poor 28th place in the manufacturer section, right at the bottom of the table. 

In previous years, however, the C4 SpaceTourer was actually the highest rated MPV for owner satisfaction with a score of 90.38%, with high scores for comfort and safety features. The car’s safety credentials are impressive, having been bestowed with a five-star rating by crash-test experts Euro NCAP. Despite this, the C4 Spacetourer is a remarkable package by Citroen and is rated our best large MPV.

Citroen Grand C4 SpaceTourer reliability

In our 2020 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, the C4 SpaceTourer was highly rated for running costs and excellent practicality, which are key priorities for MPV owners, but its fiddly infotainment systems and poor connectivity let the side down. Reliability was good overall, with only 12.1% of owners reporting an issue in the first year of ownership, with electrical gremlins the most common problem.

Safety

Although the Grand C4 SpaceTourer has never been crash-tested by Euro NCAP, it shares most of its parts with the five-seat C4 SpaceTourer, which was awarded the maximum five stars. That car was found to offer good protection in a front impact and scored maximum points in the side-impact test. It also scored maximum points for the protection it offers to toddlers, while all brands of child seat were easy to fit. Euro NCAP stated it was "satisfied that a similar level of protection is offered by the seven-seat Citroen C4 Grand SpaceTourer".

All models of Grand C4 SpaceTourer come with a range of airbags and electronic stability control, as well as tyre pressure monitoring and anti-lock brakes. You also get seatbelt warning lights, three ISOFIX child car seat mounting points on the second row of seats and a driver fatigue monitor that will warn you to take a break if you’ve been behind the wheel for too long.
