I bought this car when it was 2yrs old, it had some of the original warranty on it and I purchased a further three years cover. I have had no major problems with the car, only a minor niggle with the tailgate lock in the very cold weather clicking and not locking properly. This did rectify itself once the weather warmed up. Amazingly it only happened once through this bad weather...hurray! Fuel consumption is around 30mpg – 34 is the most I have had from it. I haven't done any really long journeys with it so am unable to comment about this. I would recommend this car to anyone. It's a nice drive on the road, and off it is just as good, it has pulled a few vehicles out of the mud too with hardly any effort.

This is a great car. We have a dog and our walks mean we travel a brief distance along potholed paths and midly offroad. The car is very comfy and our Labrador loves it!

Purchased this vehicle with 9,000 miles on the clock, 9 months old, from Land Rover dealer December 2007. A comfortable drive and feels well put together. I have always had it regularly serviced by the dealer - now have 98,000 miles on the clock - the only repair I have had is to the lower bearing in the rear diff at 70,000 miles (a common fault on the earlier FL 2) - Other than that this car has served me very, very well - I would go as far as to say it is the best vehicle I've owned in many years of driving - I have had Mercs, Audi's etc but this FL 2 has been almost faultless. Would I buy another? Yes - because it has been totally reliable in every way.

Nice car to drive.Build quality poor. Tailgate seal failed after 1 year. Wheelarch inner plastic mud protectors distorted after 2 years. Replacements are now as bad but outside warranty. Battery warning light has vanished off start-up display,but charging system ok. Problems with window electrics. Handbrake system replaced after 2 years. Now sticking on again.

All good when it works but when they go wrong they are terrible. Mine used to stop working for no apparent reason while in motion. This was very dangerous as the power steering would go, the brakes wouldn't work and there was no warning. Land Rover couldn't locate the problem let alone fix it, so it had to go.

The car is a great car to drive, but a terrible car to own! I bought this car privately, it was only 6 months old, it only had 6500 miles and I have owned it for 7 years. I love the car, but it's just so infuriating! From day one its had loads of electrical faults and Land Rover never fixed one of them because when I took it in they could never find them. The dealers and servicing is the worst I've ever had to deal with! Why are Japanese car dealers always better? The dif went at 60k, unfortunately it was out of warranty so cost me thousands to fix!!

We live in rural Devon and the winter weather pushed us into buying a 4X4. I'm so pleased it did. The Freelander is superbly relaxing and comfortable to drive. It is quiet and smooth. It's only when you drive the same roads in a saloon that you realise how hammer much it is soaking up. Through pot holes, floods and snow - it gets you there without drama. It handles pretty well though obviously it's no sports car. Everything works as it should. The only issue has been one window malfunction after a very cold night which the dealer told me how to reset over the phone. Maybe it will become less reliable over time but so far it has been first class. Dealer experience has been very good too, certainly better than my previous PR dominated main dealer experiences......Devon farmers don't do glitz. Down sides?... Fuel consumption is not great. Even extended motorway cruising will just get to 40mpg. Long journeys bring 36-ish, short ones in the region of 32mpg. The boot is ok but not huge.

I gave up faith in my vehicle after 65,000 miles and when the plastic fuel intake fractured. Part of it fractured and was drawn into the engine requiring a complete rebuild. Was off the road for 3 weeks whilst being repaired. (I suppose this is what they mean by an off road vehicle). Other faults over 4 years included gear box oil seal failing (3 days off road) fogging up of rear lamp cluster, faulty alarm, rear electric tailgate lock failing, rear parking sensors single continuous tone. Apart from that a comfortable drive, not very fuel efficient wouldn't recommend buying one unless you have deep pockets.

In over 5 years ownership my vehicle has covered 54000 miles and has never let me down. It has been main dealer maintained (through good bartering of prices) The only issue has been the boot lock and this was sorted under warranty.
