Unlike my previous 2003 Mercedes E320 CDI, this CLS has been totally reliable. It has never failed to start and to make progress and nothing has gone wrong. After 45,000miles the shock absorbers probably need replacing soon.

Numerous issues regarding the V6 diesel engine. EGR, cranckshaft bearings etc

Glow plugs have been replaced. Front tyres wear on the inside badly. Bottom suspension joints on the front are worn.

Car bought new 7 years ago. Reliability on a par with my previous 14-year-old Jag V12 ie. not great. Brake sensor, suspension sensor, exhaust replaced at 5 years due to rust, window mechanism replaced, discs rust if car unused for a fortnight in freezing weather, 3 out of 4 brake pipes replaced at 7 years due to rust and MOT fail. Repair and servicing costs huge. Petrol costs expected but not costs of repairs in a supposedly prestige make when the mileage is still only 40K.

A very nice drive in perfect conditions, but an absolute nightmare if the road is greasy and almost impossible to drive in snow, even if there has been just the lightest of covering. I think it is about time that the manufactures of these vehicles take a serious look into the safety aspect of these cars in poor conditions. They should have a duty of care when they design thses models, knowing very well that they are going to be driven in snow and ice.

Cracking car extremely pleased with the mercedes brand. This is the 3rd merchant i have had in the last 7 years. I tried an audi a5 and traded it within 6 months

Very satisfied overall some drawbacks- limited space in rear. Boot lacks height despite being very deep. performance & handling excellent although handling not quite up to bmw standards( bmw owner past 25 tyears)styling major factor in choice - seeemed quite revolutinary for mercedes! On balance a lovely car & would buy same again

I paid a premium price for a premium product. Unfortunately the build quality (rattles, buzzing in the cabin. The use of hard, cheap feeling plastics. Ill fitting parts, uneven gaps). The delay experienced on initial acceleration is frustrating beyond belief and the final straw really in what has been a less than exemplory performance from a company that i think are living on past reputation. Definitely overpriced for what it is. Engine very good though, powerful and relatively economical, and so far reliable. Could be so much more for not much more effort. Although i have indicated that i would buy a mercedes again, it would be after a long period of test driving and if the others in this bracket had nothing to tempt me. I like the look of the 6 series bmw at the moment.
