Peugeot 3008 GT Line review

A stylish exterior, classy interior and comfortable ride make the Peugeot 3008 GT Line a deservedly popular SUV

The mid-size SUV or crossover class is increasingly competitive, with just about every manufacturer offering their own model. The all-new Peugeot 3008 is the French manufacturer’s offering and aims to be a class leader, going up against well established models such as the Renault Kadjar, SEAT Ateca and Nissan Qashqai.

In mid-range GT Line trim, the 3008 comes with a varied choice of engines offering a decent drive, plus a classy and well-specced interior. It also offers plenty of visual appeal thanks to rugged body cladding and an angular design complemented by silver bodywork accents, larger 18-inch alloy wheels, and daytime running lights.

Best 4x4s and SUVs to buy

All the engines are relatively frugal and offer decent performance for daily use. Buyers who want a petrol engine can pick from a 1.2-litre with a six-speed manual gearbox or a more powerful 1.6-litre engine with an eight-speed automatic. Our pick for those who drive fewer miles is the smaller petrol engine but for those buyers likely to cover a higher mileage, our pick would be the 1.5-litre diesel. This is available with both the manual and automatic gearbox options and offers improved fuel economy over the automatic-only 2.0-litre diesel variant.

The 3008 GT Line is as spacious, comfortable and practical as its nearest rivals. It’s good to drive, with light, accurate steering and impressive handling for a car of its type. The ride quality is excellent; even with the larger 18-inch alloys fitted, the car manages to soak up the majority of bumps and rough surfaces. When on the move, road and tyre noise is minimal, as is wind noise at motorway speeds.

The 3008’s interior has an attractive design, although some buyers may not be keen on Peugeot’s i-Cockpit. That’s because the dials are positioned high up on the dashboard, so you look over, rather than through, the steering wheel to see the instruments. Once you’re familiar with the layout, however, the 12.3-inch screen offers an array of customisation options for both instruments, and the navigation is simple to use.

Overall, the cockpit is a classy one, with plenty of soft-touch materials throughout, including the leather effect door trim panel material, which has a quality feel alongside the leather effect upholstery on the seats. Equipment levels on the GT Line models are impressive, with sporty styling, full LED headlights and indicators, and even LED lighting in the interior. Sat nav is standard with 3D mapping, and there’s also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality too.

The 3008 GT-Line offers fairly generous passenger space both in the front and rear, although the middle-seat passenger is a little tight for a full-sized adult. The boot is very spacious though, offering 520 litres of space. Safety is excellent, which is proved by a five-star Euro NCAP rating. As standard, the 3008 comes with autonomous emergency braking and a lane departure warning system.

Verdict 4/5

As an all-round proposition the Peugeot 3008 certainly ticks lots of boxes. It’s available with a good range of engines, is decent to drive without sacrificing comfort, and is an attractive, stylish car. Combine all that with a desirable, high-end interior and the Peugeot 3008 is a class-leader in the mid-size SUV market.
