Porsche Macan Electric review - Interior & comfort

“The Porsche Macan Electric’s interior echoes that of the brand’s other models, with a driver-focused high-quality design”

Not only is a Porsche known for its driving dynamics, its cabins are traditionally very driver-focused too. That’s the case here; there’s a large centre console which envelops the front passenger and driver. It’s a design that will be very familiar if you’ve ever sat in a Cayenne or Taycan.

Thankfully, while many of the Macan Electric’s controls are accessed via the touchscreen or touch-sensitive buttons, Porsche has still included a good balance of physical switches, like those used for the climate control temperature and fan speed.

Quality is generally as high as you’d expect of such an expensive car, but we did find some cheaper plastics in more hidden-away areas. That said, this was rare, and you’re unlikely to notice unless you go searching.

Is the Porsche Macan Electric’s infotainment and navigation system easy to use?

The Porsche Macan Electric’s infotainment system is based on the Android Automotive software, which is no bad thing, and the graphics are in-fitting with the Porsche aesthetic. It’s very responsive and crisp, and we found the menus and submenus to be well thought-out and logical.

Is the Porsche Macan Electric well equipped?

It’s quite hard to determine whether a base-spec Macan Electric is well equipped or not, because even our test car was fitted with £25,000 of options. As has always been the case for Porsche models, each car is essentially bespoke, with buyers expected to specify the equipment they want.

With that said, every Macan Electric gets at least 20-inch wheels, eight-way electrically-adjustable heated front seats, powered tailgate, LED headlights, electrically-folding side mirrors and more, so it’s certainly not spartan.

What options should you choose on the Porsche Macan Electric?

As with the Taycan and Cayenne, the Macan Electric gets the option of an extra screen for the front passenger, which allows them to watch their favourite streaming service or listen to their own music with headphones should they wish. There’s a clever film that stops the screen from being visible from the driver’s seat, to help mitigate distraction.

There’s also the option of an augmented-reality head-up display which can project information up to 10 metres in front of the car, but we found this a little distracting. We’d avoid the aforementioned options as they just seem unnecessarily frivolous and gimmicky.

You can also get optional adaptive air suspension, or you can specify the Extended Leather Package for just over £2,800 – we don’t think this is particularly necessary unless you care about the door bins and lower dash also being finished in leather. It’s worth investing some time in the Macan Electric’s extensive options list, as each buyer will have different priorities and budgets.
