In 24 years of driving, this is the first time I have stayed with both the same brand and model when changing car. I have come from a 2011 140 SE Twin-door to my current car, and while I though my last was great, the new model is amazing. The Elegance spec does make a difference to the feel of the car, and in silver, with the ivory leather, looks and feels every bit as special as a Merc, BMW or Audi. Standard kit is generous and the Columbus audio and sat-nav is impressive. It really is a nice place to be on a long trip, regardless of whether you are driving or being driven. I must also comment the ride quality. My 2011 SE ran on 17" alloys and so I was expecting a slightly firmer ride on the 18" of the Elegance, but actually the ride comfort is significantly better, so assume changes have been made to the dampers on the new model. Either way, the slightly 'jiggly' ride of the previous version is gone. Finally, the new face-lifted version looks significantly 'fresher' and more modern, especially with the LED running and tail lights. In estate form, this really is a very handsome car indeed. Overall I am even more deeply impressed than I was with my previous model and I honestly couldn't think of a car that I would prefer to own and drive.

Having read all the rave reviews for this car, I thought I was in for a safe trouble-free purchase. The car is big, there's no doubt about that. It also "appears" to be well built with a good solid interior, comfortable ride and enough features for the tech-savvy, although the out of date sat-nav with no updates available is annoying. I have the 1.6 diesel which does not feel weak though it does lack that extra boost for overtaking quickly. It feels and looks good on the road and is great for long journeys with a healthy 50mpg on long trips.. The only thing I would say is that it is in no way a "fun" car. Like Clarks shoes, it's sensible, sturdy and comfortable but in no way thrilling. So it's a shame that after a year's ownership, I now have given it up as a waste of money. It started with the leak in the rear footwell, a major leak which had water literally sloshing about. Three weeks in the garage and a major strip out, welding and refit later, the leak is still there and now back for yet more dismantling. The air conditioning condenser also required a replacement and an oil leak has been found at the camshaft. While I do motorway driving, I am not a heavy or fast driver, so to have these problems on a car that's a little over two years old seems a bit much. I've had French cars with less problems. So far, it's all been covered by warranty but I have no intention to keep this over the three year mark. I bought this based on the good reviews but these proved unreliable for my own vehicle. Skoda, for me, is still worthy of it's old reputation and I shall never buy another one.

Took the plunge and opted over my lomg term brand Mercedes; and can only praise the car and the brand. Highlights for sure are space, comfort, practicality, quite cabin and effortless journeys. It really is that good; well done Skoda! If you didn't think of it before as an alternative you really should. My only grips (1) the metal framework around the doors is visible from the inside so you see the paint work of the car (2) carpet is too basic (3) the plastics for the door pull is too hard

Cheap, good. Relaxing - but can hustle along & grip well if you need to press on. Overall design and quality pretty convincing. (The workplace Mondeos feel humdrum afterwards, the "better steering feedback" makes your whole upper body dance around, so backroads are more tiring, never mind the coarser engine. You don't want to feel numbed like a rally god at the end of a stage, merely just driving somewhere, and the seats are lumpy whereas the Superb is a more genuinely luxurious drive, for no more money). Pilot Sport 3's quieter & less twitchy to steer than Conti 3's (which showed disconcerting circumferential cracking towards end of life). Not sure if this is pothole-related. Centre console narrow considering yawning gap between your right knee and door. Rear ISOFIXes similarly much closer to each other than you would expect: only the waif-like can sit between two childseats. All the cost of high crash-ratings..? Heating controls very low and dim in sunshine.. have to really stare to see what they're set at. SatNav needs 7digits and the touch icons should be taller (so you don't have to focus so intently on getting the right one if road is slighty bumpy). Music volume isn't quelled by reverse sensors detecting things: assume you are about to hit something, unless you turn it right down before manoeuvring.. or you will - which kind of defeats the purpose. Good optional (near essential) boot floor which gives a level loadbay (we keep folding fabric 2dog cage and blanket under it). Excellent for a row of say 5 bags of shopping - slide it back a foot before loading up: shopping bags sit between tailgate and resulting ramp - never any need to repack before taking into house. Clutter is kept in vast side bins which never seem to get a mention. Bootlight/ Torch battery failed about 12 months in - not ideal if you are doing a puncture changeover. Auto lights/ wipers/ dipping mirror: very much set and forget once they are right. Nearside mirror dip on reverse, all windows up/ down/ mirror fold from keyfob are all pretty useful. Minor rattles: one probably the glovebox thing people talk about, other (slight buzz - prob ok to average listener) the passenger doorspeaker. Too short on time to take door apart and fit Alpine units. Moderate thrum between about 1700-2000rpm is only engine intrusion to mention, given it is a 4pot diesel. Its 35% cheaper in fuel than old 523 manual (it did 35mpg steady cruise), and 40% pricedrop against same spec/ economy/ power E-class. Overall - no regrets buying. If you are worried about prestige, use a different supermarket, change jobs, or wear darker sunglasses...

Picked up the car from a dealer in Ayr that offered a fantastic deal, plumped for the little petrol engine as I drive a lot of short journeys and as I plan on keeping the car for a while wasn't sure if a diesel may develop problems with the particulate filter. This base model certainly doesn't feel like one with fit and finish first class, the materials used are of a good quality and there are more than enough gadgets to keep me happy, saying that I did plump for a full sized spare (it annoys me that you have to pay for one nowadays) rear parking sensors and a clever load cover as options, it makes the car that bit more user friendly day to day particularly with the size of the thing when reversing into a parking space. As for the engine I have to say it's a joy to drive, it goes really well, pulls well through the gears and is so refined you can hardly tell if it's turning over, added to the fact that it weighs a lot less than a diesel unit means that the superb is suprisingly agile for a car of this size. To sum up, if your after a car that won't break the bank offers one of the roomiest and refined cabins I've ever travelled in and a whopping big boot then look no further.

This is an update to my previous review. MPG has improved as I have now done some long trips whereas previously the car had been running mainly in town. The front Continental tyres were almost down to the limit at 10,000 miles and I have just replaced them with a pair of Goodyear FI Asymmetric 2. I had these fitted to the rear and the existing rear Continental Sport Contact 2s fitted on the front. The ride has improved notably. I still miss the comfort and quality of the Volvo V70, but the Skoda is a fine car and considerably cheaper, although substantial discounts can be obtained on the V70 if you are buying new.

I bought this car after handing back my Volvo XC90 early from a PCH scheme. It is an ex demo in Petrol Blue metallic which is an excellent colour ( slight hints of green in certain lights). After owning an XC90 the boot space is average- Skoda should allow the rear seats to slide forward as my kids have too much legroom and I would rather have the boot space. It is also a really long car and quite narrow. The car was bought as a demo and needed loads of scratches taken out ( dealer did this foc) plus the windscreen needs replacing ( again foc). Good service Skoda but shouldn't have happened in first place. Was sold this car on the fact it matches VW/Audi quality. Well - every time I get in it something else rattles/buzzes- the dashboard/glove-box/drivers door trim/rear door trim plus the boot door groans every time I open it. Also the electric seat switch fell off the first time I used it! Interior- SAT NAV incomprehensible plus can't seem to turn the radio off when the SAT NAV is on ( just have to turn down the volume). Plastics are OK but not Audi standard. After owning a succession of Volvos the four pot diesel is droney and boring although the speed is good. DSG clever but auto engine cut off when at lights or in traffic is infuriating. I hear Skoda are bringing out a bigger 7 seater SUV which should be interesting although the pull of the new Volvo XC90 in 2015 seems inexorable.

I took a chance and changed to Skoda from my Audi ( which I loved ) and I'm happy to comment that I haven't regretted it. The car is reliable and very comfortable with an extremely punchy yet quiet diesel engine . Loading up for family excursions is no problem, as there is loads of space in the back and my wife / mother in law / daughter no longer complain about the suspension as they used to when in my Audi ( never bothered me ). It's a sensible choice with some nice design touches and in my view, the estate version looked better than the saloon with it's 'clumsy' rear design, but having said that, it's still not as sexy looking as the Audi, but it has all the VAG engine, gearbox and components except the badge ( so what ) I would buy another, as they are getting better as the new styling shows, but the only question mark so far is the heated windscreen - I've had two so far and 3 chip repairs -far more than previously and I'm left wondering if there is an issue with the screens being more susceptible to damage with the internal heating elements? - I'm being assured not, but I'm not convinced.

After 38 years of Volvo ownership, I bought a Superb Estate. It compares well to the Volvo V70 I had previously but is not as comfortable. The Superb's seats are narrow and too hard and the car doesn't have the premium feel of the Volvo. My Superb has 18 inch wheels with 40 aspect tyres and this gives quite a harsh ride. The car is fitted with Continental tyres and when the time comes I will change to Michelin because they are alleged to be quieter and more comfortable. The Superb does more mpg than the Volvo and parts and servicing will be cheaper. I do like the DSG gearbox which shifts seamlessly and is better than the Volvo's Geartronic box. It does go into high gear at low revs however but the powerful 170 bhp engine copes well. The boot is massive and bigger than the Volvo's, but the Volvo's boot floor was perfectly flat whereas the Skoda has a ridge in the middle of the floor. Also, the seat squabs have to be lifted before the backrests are lowered whilst the Volvo backrest were much simpler to fold down. The Superb's information system is quite tricky to navigate but I guess that I haven't really had the car long enough to get used to it. The Volvo has a fantastic cruise control with the controls on the steering wheel. The Superb's cruise control is on a stalk hidden by the steering wheel. Door locking and unlocking is a palaver in the Superb with the key fob having to be pressed multiple times or pressed for 2 seconds to perform the various opening, closing and mirror folding functions. It was more straightforward in the Volvo. Useful features on the Skoda include the "Travel" function for the headlights which can be set for continental travel through the car's settings menu. The car also has twin rear fog lights which is unusual these days, so the car is an excellent continental tourer. The nearside door mirror can be set to dip when reversing so that you can see the kerb. This is useful because the low profile tyres afford no protection to the alloy wheels. I like my Superb but I will go back to Volvo when the time comes to change.

I bought the petrol version so I could have it converted to LPG. It was a demonstator with low mileage (3K miles in 10 months) and in excellent condition. Having driven 13 Audis and VWs prior to opting for the Skoda I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the interior and materials used. I would rate it as good as Audi and better than VW. The engine is smooth and refined either at speed or around town. In fact it is hard to tell (without the rev counter) at tick over if the engine is running! The car eats up motorway mileage with little wind and tyre noise. Switches etc have a quality feel as does the interior trim, although I would agree with a previous reviewer that in brigh sunshine on the dash it is hard to see the lights showing what is on or off. But once you get to know the controls this is less of an issue. One initial issue was that the handbrake lever is located on the passenger side of the centre console, which took a bit of getting used to. So far I have had no rattles but one squeak, which was the trim to the side of the glove box occasionally rubbing on the trim next to the passenger door (fixed with a sliver of foam pushed under the trim). Naturally everyone talks about the space and yes, it's got oodles of room and useful luggage restraints in the boot. More importantly it's a clever package as the car is no longer than a Mondeo. The steering feel is good at speed and there is ample feedback through the wheel. The seats are very comfortable and have plenty of manoevrability to get the perfect driving position. The seat material has stood up to the rigours of a family of 5 and numerous camping trips without looking worn or marked. Testimony to the quality of Skoda's materials and build quality. Despite what others have said, if driven economically it returns 45mpg on longer A-road jouneys and 35 mpg around town. On motorway journeys it returns 38 mpg cruising at 70mph. The standard suspension is not sporty but rather tailored to motorway cruising and longer A-road journeys. But it can still entertain on more twisty roads although it can wallow and roll if pushed hard. So I have added after-market stiffer and lower Eibach springs (£400 fitted) as there was a little too much wallowing on A and B roads for my taste. I have had only one issue in 4 years of ownership, where after 20K the front pads wore the brake discs unevenly. Discs and pads were replaced at a routine service (out of warranty) for £150 by a local garage. Everything else has been faultless. The car still feels like a quality package (and still doesn't rattle). I would certainly recommend the car to anyone considering a large family estate. In summary I would say it is the best overall estate car you can buy - and you get a lot of car and quality for your money.

Having owned a few Mondeo estates, I opted for the Superb due to 0% finance. I've done 25K in it so far and am really pleased with it apart from the lack of a heated front windscreen. I've been pleasantly surprised by the economy on the 2-litre diesel. The boot space doesn't fold completely flat unlike the Mondeo, and although technically bigger in litres than the Mondeo it's not as wide so not quite as practical. The rear seating area is large and limo-like, very roomy. The handling is ok but again not as good as Mondeo.

I purchased this car as an ex-demonstrator model with 4k miles on the clock. I needed a large estate car, and having previously owned two Mercedes estates with which I did not get on well, I sought an alternative. I came upon the Skoda as a result of reading car reviews. Also, a former boss of mine was a long-term Skoda driver, who briefly switched to Mercedes, had a bad experience, and went back to Skoda for life. The first problem was getting one, as they seemed quite scarce on the used car market. Eventually I ended up going to one of the London dealers to get a car with the spec I wanted, which was a 170 BHP diesel engine with Elegance spec. Mine also came with a sunroof, which I think was an optional extra. Reliability: this is most reliable car I have ever owned. In over three years of ownership and nearly 50k miles, it has needed nothing other than an annual service and new tyres. No other car I have owned (including 7 Mercs) has been trouble free for this length of time. Practicality: this is the most practical car I have ever owned. The E-Class is supposed to be the definitive estate car and is allegedly slightly bigger, but having owned both I cannot see any real difference. With the rear seats folded down, the space is huge. With the rear seats up, the Skoda has more read passenger leg-room than any car of this size on the market. Looks: This is completely subjective, but I think from the side it is virtually indistinguishable from the more expensive Audi A6. From the front, it is not that attractive - but it is an estate car and looks are not a priority. Spec: if you go for elegance spec, you get leather seats (heated in the front), dual-zone climate control, sat nav which takes full post codes, a music system with digital radio, CD, and a slot for an SD card which allows you to cram on a huge amount of MP3s. There is also an internal hard drive, although I have never got round to using it. You can control most of ths via the steering wheel. Only criticism is of the touch sensitive screen on the sat nav, which is not very sensitive. This can be really frustrating when trying to enter a new address as it can take several attempts. There is also bluetooth, and voice recognition software which reads out text messages and allows you to dictate a reply. This makes a fair number of mistakes, but I think that is the case with most voice recognition software. To buy a Mercedes e-class with an equivalent spec would cost nearly double the price. Economy: Official figure say 63 mpg on a run, which I have actually achieved at a steady 60mpg. Realistically, I get around 53 mpg average on mixed driving. There is however a big difference between summer and winter. I know this is common on all diesels, but the difference is far more pronounced than with any other car I have driven. Performance: In 170bhp tuning, the performance is not bad at all. It accelerates smoothly, and the DSG automatic gearbox is one of the smoothest I have encountered. I also test drove the 140bhp version, which did not feel quite adequate and only offers marginally better economy. I did not consider any of the petrol engines. The 170bhp diesel is less common, but definitely worth holding out for. Comfort and ride: the seat are very comfortable in both the front and rear. The ride however is the one thing which lets the car down. It has appropriately soft suspension, which feels great to start off with, but after a while you begin to notice it does not do a great job at absorbing the bumps in the road. On a motorway, or any road with a good surface it is fine, but on a less well maintained road, the ride is quite fidgety. I am usually the driver, but I recently sat in the back while my wife drove and it did seem less noticeable from the rear seats. Value for money: No other large estate car comes close to matching it in terms of value for money. As I said above, an equivalent spec Merc E-class would cost nearly double the price. Even the Volkswagen Passat, with which it shares components and has a very similar cabin, costs considerably more and offers less room. I could not justify getting rid of this car at the moment simply because there is nothing this good available for a similar price. Dealer network: Fortunately my local dealer is very good. The one from whom I purchased the car was less so, and I had some issues with them. As they are franchised out, they can vary considerably as with any franchise.

Well after 8 months of ownership I thought a review was in order. So far this car has dealt excellently with everything thrown at it. Tows a 1700kg caravan without any effort. Starting always in 4WD is excellent on muddy fields and have towed past bigger supposed SUVs, which have to get wheels spinning before they automatically engage 4WD. Fuel economy averaged at 40 over 10,000 miles which over a 3rd has been towing this large van. Son who is 6ft5 loves the legroom available in rear of this. Seats really comfortable for long journeys and supportive. When car is pressed on country roads easy to forget this is such a large vehicle as grip and response are instant. Definitely would consider replacing with same model, which would be first time in 30 years of motoring I have considered that.
