Toyota Mirai saloon - Interior & comfort (2015-2020)

A well appointed, clearly laid-out and cleanly designed interior is one of the Mirai’s best features. And although you wouldn’t call it luxurious, there are plenty of solid yet soft-touch materials used throughout. Eight-way power-adjustable heated seats are standard, as well as displays that let you keep track of how the car’s fuel-cell technology is working as you drive along.

Acceleration and braking are accompanied by distinctive but not overly intrusive sounds, in order to make the sensation of speeding up or slowing down more familiar to those used to driving petrol or diesel cars. A smooth ride combined with comfortable seats completes the picture – overall, this is definitely a comfortable car to drive.

Toyota Mirai dashboard

The Mirai’s dashboard is similar to that of the Toyota Prius hybrid, with slim air vents, piano-black trim and a 4.2-inch display screen contributing to a modern, hi-tech feel. A small lever mounted next to the climate controls allows you to select forward, reverse and park, leaving room for a large storage bin where the gearstick is found in most other cars. There’s also a large armrest between the driver and front-seat passenger. The climate controls themselves recall those from the current Lexus range, needing only a soft touch to operate.

Equipment

As there’s only one trim level, the Mirai comes with extensive standard equipment. This includes multiple airbags, adaptive cruise control and other hi-tech driver aids, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and start, a wireless phone-charging pad, a rear-view camera, dual-zone climate control, a leather steering wheel, an 11-speaker stereo with DAB radio, sat nav, Bluetooth phone connectivity, bright LED headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Options

Apart from colour, there really aren’t any options to choose for the Mirai, as it’s so well equipped from the get-go. It’s certainly a good thing that the Mirai’s already-high price can’t get any higher!
