Best car ever, i had about 10 cars before that one and vw is the best one. Age means nothing for this car, this car has been made to work for years. Everlasting plesure of driving.

No problems from buying it at 3 years old. Starts first time, everything still working/nothing broken. Recent VW recall replaced fuel injectors and getting better mpg

Good to drive on a daily round trip of 70 miles. economical compared to last car which was petrol.not the most stylish car but practical for my needs.

I bought the passat as it was as good as i could get for under £3000 and i carry a lot of gear at times. Leaking was an issue as rain collected in the footwells - a known passat problem. Overall i am happy and would buy again if i had the same £$£ again as opposed to other makes and manufactures.

It is ok, but the major problem or issue is that it 'mists up' both side windows and windsvreen as soon as the temperature drops below 4 degrees. This is very irritating and not very safe as it affects visibility whilst driving. This is, i am led to believe, a design issue with the passat.

My car has lived up to the quality and performance of the manufacturer. I only have one small niggle which is i am not 100% in favor of electronic hand brakes.

An attractive car let down by certain items of "over clever" (and expensive to repair) engineering not necessary on a family model (electronic parking brake; steering lock/module complexity; injector vulnerability; sophisticated gearbox, to name a few. The previous model was a better build, more typical of vw.

Does the job it is supposed to, does it well, it's a great long distance carrier. It does lack the excitement of, say, an alfa or a saab, but i have come to love it. Respect.

It is a practcal workhorse. It has been very reliable and is very comfortable on long (or short) journeys. I have had the car nearly 10 years and i no longer need a large family estate car so will look to buy something smaller and perhaps more fun.

A lovely car which is comfortable and looks great. It's not as practical as my previous newer estate version though. Why don't saloons have rear wash/wipes as well? It would be much safer if they did.

Vw have a reputation which i feel was endorsed by the bora i had previously but which is undemined by the passat (estate). A water leak into the passenger side footwell (via the cabin air box) has tripped out the alarm and this smacks of duff design. It's a common fault and a huge oversight bearing in mind the company sold this model on the back of their close attention to design detail.

Hard to say really, as i have only had it for 30 days, and it's the new model, bluemotion, hopefully, if it is as good as my last passat year 56, i really cannot see any troubles ahead, my 56 passat, 2lt diesel, automatic, had one small problem in four years, just the need of a small switch replacement.

Fantastic car high service costs vw oem parts very expensive. Only last week a diesel injector failed and the car cut out whilst on the motorway (very dangerous) and cost £185 recovery fee and £765 to diagnose and replace injector not happy

Good overall, a fault with a wire in the wiring loom was a tricky fix to find, took the garage over 2 weeks and 2 visits to fix and the bill was nearly £600 and that was at a independent, but they did replace the battery and changed some sensors thinking it may fix the fault before finding a fraired wire in wiring loom, which must have been like that when the car built in the factory! Preety poor from vw!

Brilliant. Needed a reliable, economical, family car to eat up miles on a commute and be sufficiently spacious and comfortable for holidays/weekends to family involving 2-4 hour drives to get there. Managed a drive from kent to glasgow in one trip (2 stops en route) and still felt comfortable in it. Good economy, useable power.

Overall iam disappointed, with the uncertainty of unable to drive the car safely during inclement weather (snow)it is worrying that a car of this "mark" leaves a person uncertain/unsure whether to take a journey

Very comfortable, roomy and practical car. Great for towing and carrying our dog and moving lots of scout gear. It has a high build quality and is smooth to drive.

Under estimated by the motoring trade. The neutral styling means it still looks smart and has not aged like some other cars e.g. Ford focus, mondeo, vectra

Ok, poor performance from 140hp tdi, compared to mondeo with same power. Economy reasonable, but seats and off-set pedals together with that stupid handbrake ruin the car for me

Percieved quality only! The car could be great but for annoying faults. Dealer does not care that you have to go back to them to fix design faults at cost to the customer, as it puts money in the bank. (short term only dealers, short term only!). They are not interested in customer satisfaction. Parts are overpriced! Dissapointed!!!

This car is mainly used by my wife for the school run and shopping. I have a company car from the same manufacturing group and would rate them highly for build quaity and safety. Depreciation on the vw and other makes in the past has meant that we now buy nearly new/low mileage rather than new.

Very comfy, excellent ride, great build quality, 2.0t engine is fast, smooth and fairly frugal. The package is let slightly down by lifeless steering and a detached driving experience.

It is stylish, well built & reliable. It is pleasant to drive, & very relaxing on long runs. it is reasonably economic on longer runs, but dissappoints on shorter journeys. While the boot is large & deep, it is not always easy to load - it would be so much better as a 5 door hatchback like the skoda superb!

Great power and fuel economy comfortable over long distances Very reliable above faults the first since new but 3 bits of plastic trim have fallen off in interior and dealer said he cold not replace them.

I bought this car at the end of a 4 year company lease as it had less than 50,000kms. I had expected to use it for commuting 60kms per day but circumstances changed so my wife drove it 20kms per day. It has now got just over 70,000kms on the clock. Last month we paid €120 for a rear ABS sensor. Last week the engine stopped and the issue has been diagnosed as a faulty central control unit. Approx cost to replace €1300 plus labour. Apparently it is a known issue with this car. Its almost funny when you consider the arrogance with which VW promote their build quality over styling (you would not buy this car for its style). Do not buy a Passat unless you are willing to fork out wads of cash on a regular basis. If I were to hold on to it, which I will not, I could look forward to replacing the entire clutch system - another known fault. Give me a Toyota any day.

I have had 2 reliability problems, both of which resulted in complete immobilisation of the vehicle. The first was a problem with the steering and the second was an ignition failure. Both were fixed under warranty. The second was the subject of a recall which had not reached me.

Middle of the road machine that is very fit for purpose for lots of motorway miles and for the family. Germanic without being a brand that costs too much. It doesn't set my heart on fire, but to be honest every car that i have owned (or company car) previously that has been an emotional purchase (e.g. style or performance over substance) has been weaker in many areas. The passat ticks most boxes in the 80-90th percentile. Above average everywhere is much better than being perpetually frustrated by one or two major annoyances. Maybe skoda superb next on my shopping list....or can i go that far down the vw brand ladder?
