A simple, efficient car until it breaks down which turbodiesel have a habit of doing. Then the bills roll in and some are pretty eye-watering. A good design spoiled by an engine layout that makes some repairs expensive on the diesels. Oh, and then there's the emissions fibbing by VW. The DSG gearbox isn't bad at all and petrol engines might be better.

At 53,000 the head gasket blew through the side of the engine resulting in a Ł5k garage bill for a new engine!

Whats the point of paying thousands of pounds for the percieved "reliability" of a 20 odd grand vw only for it to have 2 dmf/clutch assemblies fail,part of the injection system and airbag faults many of the faults occured after the expiry of the warranty.Its A mistake i wont make again.

Versatile and reliable, it performs adequately on the road although the brakes are a little too keen and the dual mass flywheel occasionally causes a jerky first start. I think it has been good value for money and is solidly built compared with competitors: purchased mainly to transport 14 stone st. Bernard!

Comfortable, very spacious, reliable estate. Headlights could be better. Extra servicing such as cambelt comes much sooner then my previous car (honda).

Does what it says on the tin. It is a bit of a box, transports three kids in comfort with a little extra if the friends tag along and the 140bhp helps keep me reasonably happy. Vw build quality is good and no real running problems so far. Certainly i would like aston martin vantage but it is no use to me.

So versatile and economical, being a 7 seater so useful when going out as group or family. Have removed seats and used vehicle to help both my son and daughter move house. Had a tow bar fitted, so useful to tow a trailer or our 4 berth caravan, as we love travel and visiting other parts of the uk. May be a little under powered when towing the caravan, being a 1.9tdi, but who wants to rush along, when we supposed be relaxing and enjoying our leisure time. All said and done, i like the driving position and comfort, i'm pleased with the economy, even when towing the caravan. Had problems with the heater blower, had to buy a new fan blower motor and resistor, plus fitted new 40amp fuse, quite easy to fit, done it myself, all works fine now. Overall one of the best cars i've owned. (last car was a company car which i had the option to purchase, "53" plate nissan primera 2.2dci se, 5 door hatchback, loved that one too, especially the reverse camera as standard fitted into the tailgate, so useful do miss that).

Love the car, looks good for an mpv. It's done 130,000 miles in 40 months. Great to drive, always get out of it feeling fresh. Had the mark 1 before this & the mark 2 is a lot better in all ways. Great stereo too.. Getting a grand c max shortly due to company rules & will be sad to see it go..

Best car i have owned in 45 years of car ownership. Unlike previous cars where eventually something niggles and you fancy a change, with this one there is nothing that makes me want to change. Its going to be its age and the prospect that things may start to need replacement.

Failure of the esp/abs module was a bummer, but vw happily paid almost the whole cost of fixing. Everything else makes this the best car i've had in recent years, so overall i'm very happy.

Ths is the second toran both from new both sufered esp failure repaired under warranty choice of this vehicle dictated by the need to accommodate two very elderly in-laws together with their wheelchairs (folded). Proved to be a good choice and worked very well on short hospital visits and long holiday drives. Good handling most of the time but rubbish in snowy conditionions (over 10mm) until fitted with winter tyres which transformed the handling. Taken all-in-all a good,solid performer however not my next 1st choice as my requirements have changed.

Love everything about the car. Two years trouble-free motoring. Very very good MPG (up to 65mpg on highway at 75mph). Although it's only a 1.6TDi engine, it might outperform a much bigger cc's engine. The only thing i hate about the car is its LOOKS. Too boxy and no style. Might consider changing to Ford S-MAX next year. Fingers crossed, VW will bring out a fresh look Touran.

This was the worst car I have owned since a Morris 1100 1964. Wheel Bearings, brake calipers, shock absorbers, window winders, wing mirror glass, auxilary heater, a new rattle every day, a very expensive buy at 3.5 years old and now after 7.5 years driving there's still only 78,000 on the clock. Lovely to drive and original battery and exhaust, but will be glad to be shot of it.

Was looking for a compact 7 seater. Touran fits the bill nicely, it seems. However, after a year my love to it tarnished. First of all I just don't like how it drives, 1.6 TDI is far too underpowered and clutch with dmf will make sure you never feel relaxed when pulling away. It will stall a lot before you get used to keep the revs high (goodbye economy). Secondly, it is not that practical. Boot is large on paper (5 seats up) but not wide or long enough to fit items like a pram easily. With all 7 up there is not much to talk about. And yes there is not enough storage spaces for kids at back. Internal trim is dull and gets damaged easily, especially plastic around boot area. Self parking feature is nice but still a gimmick in real life. Economy: real av urban mpg is 35 (school and shopping) and about 41- 45 in combined mode with 2 adults + 2 kids. Another thing tailgate and rear window will get absolutely filthy at any sign of moisture on the road as car has tendency to spray itself. Fitted radio does not support Android devices.

Practical 7 seater let down by the uncomfortable rearmost seats which are really only any use for children under 10 - the seat squabs in the third row are far too thin for older children or adults to find comfortable.

Practical car with lots of adaptability, though maybe not the best looking car. Big boot space can be made bigger by removal of rear seats completely. Comfortable on long distances, good cruiser but not the quietest. Good performance. Model changes have removed niggles with my model but now probably too expensive for me next time around.
