Skoda Enyaq review - Practicality & boot space

Loyal Skoda owners love the brand's practical touches, and the Enyaq is a contender for the most family-friendly affordable electric car. A lot of this is down to its Volkswagen Group 'MEB' platform, which positions all the car's mechanical hardware low down, allowing designers to boost passenger and luggage space above it. Its wheels have also been pushed right out to the four corners, improving space inside the SUV.

Just as with the Skoda Octavia and Superb, Skoda has stayed true to its reputation for offering more space for the money than rivals. It might cost not much more than some SUVs from the class below like the Peugeot E-2008 in entry-level guise, but the Enyaq's interior is spacious and there's an abundance of cargo room. There are no issues with fitting child seats, the doors open nice and wide and a flat floor means there's lots of room for feet, making it easier for passengers to get comfortable.

There are plenty of storage places too, from the usual cubby between the front seats and a tray near the gear selector, to an unexpected area under the centre console. The latter is surprisingly large and isn't possible in most conventional cars because it's where the gearbox would usually be.

Boot space

Thanks to the Enyaq's relatively tall and boxy shape, designers have managed to give it a vast 585-litre boot while maintaining a small cubby under the boot floor to stow away the charging cable. Fold down the rear seats and this increases to 1,710 litres, which is one of the largest volumes of any electric car currently available. The swoopy Enyaq Coupe still offers 570 litres of boot space with the seats up.
