SsangYong Turismo MPV (2013-2019): owner reviews

"The SsangYong Turismo MPV is undeniably great value for money, but cheap plastics and a poor driving experience still let it down"

Very good spacious car with seven comfortable seats and big boot. Automatic gearbox is brilliant and engine powerful enough. Once you get used to it it's really nice to drive. Excellent value for the price.

We have been really impressed with this cars practicality, it will do whatever we need - Tow a large trailer - carry 7 adults in comfort - and really good value for money. We have had no problems at all with the car but if we did we have a great local dealer to sort it.

I bought the Turismo to replace a troublesome Range Rover which we used to tow a large caravan. The power delivery is excellent and the Mercedes 7 speed tiptronic gear box is very smooth. This car is enormous inside and very comfortable, caravan towing is a breeze with all that low range torque. The only downside was when I bought the car it didn't have a reversing camera – unfortunately it was a £1,200 dealer option. Having seen a new Turismo today it now comes with touch screen/sat nav and reversing camera, but the alloy wheels are not as smart looking! I would recommend this vehicle if you spend a lot of time caravanning.

I bought this Turismo 5 months ago. It has an loud rattling noise coming from back seats and middle seats. I've taken it to two different SsangYong dealers and have called SsangYong UK customer service. They all admitted that the seat rattling noise is a regular problem with all Turismo models and have no solution to it, even for the new models. I don't you don't buy one of these unless you want to be stuck with rattling, annoying seat noise while driving.

I bought this because we have lots of children in car seats, lots of luggage for long trips and I didn't want to drive something that felt like a van. My husband has a Land Rover Discovery and we always have to take mine for the long journey's as his just isn't big enough... the kids prefer my car too!

This is a great MPV it has superb handling plenty space & allows a wheelchair in the boot & still have 7 seats to use so you are not stuck with a situation you can no take family or friends in the car because you have no space or need your wheelchair on the back seat with this. It's great! This is my second one. Love it.

Brilliant car if you need 7 full size seats plus huge size boot. Very powerful engine, average consumption for the size of a car. No problems whatsoever so far, passed 2 MOTs so far and 2 services with no problems. Had glow plugs replaced under warranty on beginning and that's it so far. Going to need to replace the brake pads probably soon as they are on 60% Very pleased with the car so far.

This is a really comfortable, easy to drive roomy car. It doesn't feel huge when I am driving it as it handles very well. I looked for a large car that would seat 7 people in comfort as I often carry adolescents with long legs! The leather seats are roomy and support the lumbar region, there is plenty of room to walk between the middle seats to reach the rear row and a large area behind that which accommodates my two dogs. When the dogs are not in residence there is room for a family's luggage, the shopping from massive supermarket run or flat pack from Ikea.

We have 4 kids, 2 of them are teenagers. We go camping and travelling around in this awesome spaceship of a car. So much room inside, carries all our luggage with ease and has a comfy ride. Smooth auto gearbox, feels like a big American minivan to drive. It’s as nippy as you’d expect from something this big, but it’s easy enough to drive despite its size. As a big family there simply isn’t anything that beats the Turismo in terms of size vs price. Less than half the price of its rivals the Mercedes Vito and various VW camper minibus type vehicles. The Turismo is not in the same category as the Galaxy or Alhambra, Sharan etc. These are not true 7 seaters, just 5 seaters with 2 pop-up boot seats leaving you no luggage room. Questionable safety rating of these type of temporary seats too. They seem to be untested. If you are bigger than the average family, the Turismo is an excellent choice. People ask us all the time if they can have a look inside and they are always impressed. If this one dies I’d buy another one.

Brilliant for the money. I've several SUVs and the Ssangyong Turismo was by far the best tow car. Its engine pulls strong from low revs, we often have six aboard plus a three-metre inflatable dinghy, surfboards, a beach trolley, large coolboxes, wetsuits etc – and this with the seats as far back as they'll go, and slightly reclined – plus a large caravan. The four-wheel drive really impressed in snow this winter, we went off the beaten track towing the kids on sledges. The only negatives are ride quality on bad roads when unladen, and the rear seats rattle with no one sat in them. I get 29 mpg doing the school run – it's very hilly where we are – and similar fuel consumption when loaded and towing a caravan on a long run. All-in, it's great value.

An excellent car. It's very powerful considering its size and easily pulls 2 tons in weight even when fully laden with 7 passengers and baggage. The interior is comfortable and spacious enough for adults on short trips but maybe not long distance journeys. Great car overall.
