Suzuki Swift review - Practicality & boot space

Practicality is a low point for the Swift, with limited legroom and a small boot

Practicality & boot space Rating

3.5 out of 5

With the latest Suzuki Swift based on the same underpinnings as the previous car, it’s not really any more practical. In fact, the current car is almost exactly the same size as its predecessor, with a negligible 20mm increase in length, which doesn’t equate to any increase in space inside.

Four adults can fit inside the Suzuki Swift, though it’s not particularly spacious for rear passengers, and adults six-foot tall or more will likely feel very uncomfortable on longer journeys due to limited legroom, not only in the back, but up front too. That said, headroom is plentiful enough and every Swift comes with five doors, so getting in and out isn’t too much of a problem.

Does the Suzuki Swift have a big boot?

The Suzuki Swift offers the same amount of boot capacity as the previous version, with 265 litres on offer when the seats are up. Fold them down and this rises to 589 litres. Those figures are identical in two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models. The Swift is far from being the most practical car in its class – both the Vauxhall Corsa and even the Toyota Yaris have bigger boots, despite the latter featuring a full-hybrid system that robs it of space. For the ultimate in supermini practicality, consider the Skoda Fabia, which tops the class with a boot that’s 115 litres bigger than that of the Swift.

Is the Suzuki Swift a good tow car?

The Suzuki Swift can tow up to 1,000kg, which isn’t particularly impressive. We’d only recommend towing a small bike trailer or light trailer with waste to take to the tip if you have to.
