Audi Q4 e-tron SUV - Interior & comfort

The Q4 is more upmarket than the Volkswagen ID.4 or Skoda Enyaq iV

As electric cars from rival manufacturers become harder to separate in performance terms, interior design is becoming an increasingly important factor for buyers. This is an area where Audi has excelled in recent years and the Q4 e-tron is no different, elevating itself above Volkswagen and Skoda.

While the infotainment setup in the VW has proved rather controversial, the setup in the Audi is more traditional and works better as a result. It doesn’t feel much different to a petrol- or diesel-powered Audi, so you’ll have no trouble acclimatising. Physical buttons for the climate control are certainly much easier to use than the touch-sensitive sliders found in the ID.4 and the Virtual Cockpit instrument display is as crisp as we've come to expect.

Audi's MMI infotainment setup is easy to use, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. The new 11.6-inch display is very impressive, and is an inch and a half bigger than the screen fitted to cars built before March 2022.

The driver-orientated dashboard is intuitively laid out and, thanks to its electric powertrain, there's more space in the Q4 e-tron than you'd expect for an SUV of its size. Materials are all of a high quality, with soft-touch finishes where you are likely to see or feel them.

Equipment

Once you've chosen the battery and powertrain, each Q4 e-tron is available in four trim levels: Sport, S Line, Edition 1 and Vorsprung. Even Sport starts from around £40,000 but includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated front seats and a powered boot. S line brings 20-inch alloy wheels and a more sporting design inside and out, including a sports steering wheel and seats.

The Edition 1 is a different take on the S line, with black exterior trim, Matrix LED headlights and a new hexagonal steering wheel with paddles to alter the level of regenerative braking. Costing well over £50,000, the Vorsprung model includes 'Comfort and Sound' and 'Technology' packs normally found on the options list. Highlights include a panoramic sunroof, Sonos audio system, Nappa leather upholstery, an augmented reality head-up display and adaptive cruise control.

Options

Audi expects its Q4 e-tron buyers to be tech savvy and suites of extras like the aforementioned Comfort and Sound pack adds a rear-view camera and premium audio setup. The Technology pack also brings wireless smartphone charging and augmented reality head-up display. A heat pump can also be specified, which makes heating the interior more efficient and should improve the range in winter.
