Volkswagen T-Roc Black Edition launched

New Black Edition trim level for T-Roc SUV slots in above SE spec

  • New features include LED headlights and black exterior trim
  • 113bhp and 148bhp engines available
  • On sale now

The Volkswagen T-Roc Black Edition has been added to the lineup. Based on the mid-spec SE trim, the Black Edition adds £2,000 worth of equipment for just £400 more. The new model starts at £23,750 and is available to order now.

As the name suggests, opting for the Black Edition T-Roc means you get a host of exterior trim pieces painted black. The grille, door mirrors, roof rails, exhaust pipes and the 18-inch alloy wheels are all finished in this colour, while the light clusters and rear windows are tinted. You also get a maze-like geometric pattern on the rear pillars, which is exclusive to the Black Edition. All 10 standard paint colours are still available.

Best SUVs to buy now

Inside, the roof lining and dashboard are both now black, while white ambient lighting and grey stitching add contrast. The steering wheel and gear lever are leather-wrapped, and the Black Edition also gets LED headlights. Volkswagen says it’d cost £2,000 to spec all these extra features for an SE model; the LED headlights alone cost £920 on VW’s options list.

As it’s based on the bestselling T-Roc SE, the new spec also features adaptive cruise control, parking sensors all-round, heated folding door mirrors, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Like the cheaper models, you get a choice of four engines and front-wheel drive. Petrol buyers will be choosing between 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre engines, while diesel options are 1.6 litres and 2.0 litres in size. The smaller petrol and diesel engines both produce 113bhp, while the bigger engines have 148bhp. A seven-speed automatic gearbox is available on both 148bhp engines, but this’ll push the price up and will make the car slightly less economical.

What does it mean for car buyers?

Given that the SE trim is the most popular choice, the new Black Edition trim offers excellent value for money and is likely to be popular. It’s only £400 more, which isn’t much at all - especially on a PCP finance deal - and you get plenty of extra kit. The Black Edition trim should be sought after when you come to sell the car on, too. We predict that many buyers will be persuaded to upgrade from SE to Black Edition, particularly when you spread the £400 across the duration of a PCP finance deal.
