The limited-run BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition has joined the X7 range but you’ll have to be quick if you want one. Production is limited to 500 examples worldwide, with just 10 set for the UK. Prices start from £114,975, which represents a hefty £22,000 increase over the standard M50i.
The Frozen Arctic Grey metallic paint is a BMW Individual colour, and is exclusive to the Dark Shadow Edition. All chrome trim has been replaced with gloss black pieces, including the grille, window surrounds and exhaust pipes. Adding to the theme are tinted rear windows and matte black 22-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, there’s black and dark blue Merino leather upholstery, with the blue also featuring on the headliner and the instrument cowl. Piano black trim finishers (another BMW Individual option) are also included, and the lower centre console features a ‘Dark Shadow Edition’ badge.
The standard equipment list is extensive, given the model’s position as BMW’s flagship SUV. Over the M50i, it gains a panoramic sunroof and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround audio system. Other equipment includes a head-up display, screens for rear-seat passengers and massaging front seats.
As it’s based on the M50i, the Dark Shadow Edition has a 523bhp 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine under the bonnet. With xDrive four-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox, it hits 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. When driven carefully, you can expect up to 22mpg.
