The car was 12 months old when i got it and i have had it for 3 years now. Overall impression: Pros - Looks good, cabin layout excellent, quality feel inside; Cons - MPG very poor, performance, slow and loud when pushed, rough ride, tyres constantly blowing (low profile), oil leak at nearly 40k miles, kids not comfortable in the back seats, servicing expensive, I have the service deal and they are never able to collect the car from the house I always have to take it to the garage.

I've not had a single problem with the car since I have owned it
Running Cost

4 out of 5

Excellent average fuel consumption bearing in mind some of my mileage includes towing a caravan. Only expense other than routine servicing was a new tyre, (my fault). I found this expensive from main dealer as I couldn't source right tyre elsewhere quickly locally. Full Mercedes Service plan costs me Ł26 a month - good I think

It has returned excellent economy, on a long journey I can get 50+. It is surprisingly rapid in the mid-range. When fully loaded it did surprisingly well in the snow (for a RWD car) I had all my kids and all their essentials which believe me is a lot of gear. Boot space is OK but I did get the roof box for summer camping trips. I have had two main beam bulbs over two years which cost about £10 (but that included fitting at Mercedes main dealer -it cost more for Halfords to replace my wife's bulb on her Nissan). We have driven all over France in it and it's been rock solid at speed in the rain. Auto tail lift is useful. Seats fold down easy enough. t's now too small for three teenagers.. I guess that's why they build the E class.

Generally very good but the LCD display on the drivers panel has dimmed over time and despite attempts by the Mercedes service centre no significant correction has been achieved. Otherwise the car has performed excellently and been regularly serviced.
Running Cost

4 out of 5

I bought this car before the pressure of fuel prices became significant. However despite the large size engine it has proved capable of delivering reasonable fuel economy over the life of the car. Tyres have lasted well but that is probably that I am of an age when boy racer starts and stops are no longer practiced. Oil consumption remains low and only requires top up at the regular service intervals when the oil is of course replaced. The ability to check oil from the drivers seat is much appreciated. Wiper blades have been replaced twice during the cars life to date with the rear screen wiper being the most vulnerable. No bulb failures have been experienced and no other failures have occured.
