Vauxhall Corsa hatchback (2006-2014): owner reviews

"The Vauxhall Corsa is well built and has a high-quality finish, but it’s showing its age and isn’t as spacious or good to drive as newer rivals."

This car is extremely economical in town. I genuinely average 55 - 57 in town. Dual carriageways I average about 68. You can tell from these figures that it is a very fuel efficient car. However, my car came with 5 gears which meant that i had to rev it high on motorways. this lead to me averaging about 50 on motorways. If you do motorway miles make sure you get the 6 speed. Reliability is also strong, since I have had it I have had to replace the glow plugs, the dealer did this for free as a gesture, and diesel filter had to be cleaned. That is it. The driving experience is decent, too. In one respect, it is extremely slow. very slow. too slow. However, get it on a twisty road and it can put a smile on your face. Its grip really impresses me. while it is slow, the acceleration from 0 - 20 is strong so you can pull away moderately fast. I think thats about it. If you don't mind it being a bit slow, for an enthusiast anyway, it is a very good buy.

For the price the car is ok, had a few spark plug issues early on which was odd. Needed a new ignition coil after having the car for 2.5 yrs (about 40k miles) £180 cost. Gearbox also sticks a bit. Last MOT just passed, apparently there's an issue with suspension but who knows. Power wise it feels like a 1.2 not 1.4 and you really notice the difference as soon as you have only 1 passenger. Its been fine for my 10 mile commute although mpg seems to be faily low at around 35 mpg at best (with super unleaded). I dislike not having a spare wheel, the foam repair kit got me to the garage but was a hassle and you have to replace after one use (£20). If the tyre had blown as opposed to a puncture I would've been stuck and out of pocket even more. Honestly/unfortunately, the best thing about the car is the speakers which are surprisingly good for a cheap car. Overall it gets me from A to B ok but I'm looking forward to trading this in and have been for a while.

I have owned my Corsa since new, having a passion for cars since being a young boy I have driven and treated my car with respect, not thrashed it. Just to paint a picture of my circumstance with this car I do around 25 miles per day, 50% is heading out of town and 30mph limits, then onto 60mph road to work. I do maybe 50 miles or so on the odd weekend. As a practical car, being a 3 door, it isn't. This will be the same as any other 3 door car out there regardless of of the size or badge on the front. The boot is a good size (I get my labrador in there when heading out for walks). Visibility is good haven't had any problems. Parking is easy going in forwards or reversing. As comfort goes, for a small car it does very well, especially on the original continental tires it is supplied with which I have only just had to replace the fronts, backs are still going at 44k. The suspension is a little stiff in comparison to my wifes Fiesta but this makes for good feedback through the wheel. It's comfortable enough on the motorways (of which I have done some long stints) especially with the cruise control on which is a godsend for any car now. The interior is one of the best I've seen for a car in this price/size bracket with piano black center console, matching body colour air vent surrounds coupled with a nice leather steering wheel and well made buttons. As for performance, this is what really lets the car down. It's a shame this car wasn't supplier with a 1.4 engine, as it would have resulted in that little extra push it needs up long hills and would of improved the mpg as you wouldn't need to flick down into 4th as often. It hasn't been a huge problem but it does get annoying that it can't hold 60mph on a half decent gradient road. Fuel consumption has been where it's expected for a 1.2 petrol. It cost me £54 to brim the tank and it lasted for 380 miles on the trip computer. This car never missed a beat until 25k when I felt loss of power, turned out to be a coil pack issue which I fixed myself in 5 minutes but at the cost of £90. That only lasted a year and had to be replaced again. As "common" faults go, this is a pretty cheap one I guess. All I have had to do is replace brake pads, disks and front tires at 40k. This is to be expected. I will be selling my car as I need a bigger one now for the wife, kids and dog! There's too many bad reviews about this car. It's a small, cheap hatchback and it does its job very well. It's one of the most popular hatchbacks out there.

Plain sailing till 5 years old, now I've experienced nothing but engine problems with this car despite the fact i have only done 41000 miles. 6 months ago the engine management light first came on, £800 in garage fees later and it's just seems to be issue after issue. Fact is, this car looked nice and started off well, but was never that well made in the first place. Time to get rid, unfortunately :-(

The Vauxhall Corsa D is a absolute nightmare of a car, purchased the vehicle in early 2014 direct from Vauxhall... 1 year later the Engine light/emissions light comes on, took it back to vauxhall got it repaired out of my own pocket! since then the same light comes on every month with out fail and everytime i've took it back, so far i've spent over £1200 in 12 months and its all ways a sensor or coil pack!!! the vehicle was with Vauxhall again last week and needed a vaccum valve and yet again today the same light has come back on!!!! its an absolute joke! Vauxhall will not take any responsibility for the problem, they obviously built the system poorly!! the Corda D is a money pit, so if you buy one make sure your a millionaire to keep up with the garage bills!!! ITS NOT EVEN A 1 STAR !!!

We've owned the car for a while and on first appearance, it looks to be in very good condition inside and out. Aside from the very slow performance, engine wise, the car has proven to be a reliable runner with no problems to date. The issues we have are with interior and other mechanical components wearing out and failing and often being very expensive, dealer only, replacement parts. 1. The car failed an MOT after the drivers seat belt wouldn't retract properly after less than 40k miles. This required a total seat belt replacement at a cost of £150+ (just for the part). 2. The windscreen wipers started to swing too far hitting both the bonnet and door pillar when in use. This was caused after starting the car in frosty weather and having left the wipers switched on after the previous journey. I had to replace the wiper motor and linkage (all one part) at a considerable cost. We now have to consciously ensure the wipers are totally free of the windscreen before starting the car in frosty weather. I've never had this issue with any other vehicle. 3. The vanity mirrors in the sun visors have always been a very poor fit and pop/fall out regularly. The mirror "glass" of these is actually cheap plastic which warps and is like looking into a carnival mirror. I know numerous other Corsa owners with this same issue. 4. The switches/buttons for the headlamp height adjustment are confusing, ill positioned and generally poor design IMO. 5. You have to virtually dislocate your shoulder to reach the seat belts in the front seats (3 door model) and once you have the seat belt on, it obstructs the seat back adjuster (design fault). 6. The adjustment mechanism in one of the central air vents has come apart inside somehow and so you can no longer adjust it. The only positive is that there are very few rattles and the seats are fairly comfortable (although I'm not fond of the driving position - but maybe this is more personal preference).

Worst car I have ever had. The most unreliable car I have ever owned. Breaks down every couple months. Still in warranty period but the turnaround is slow between the car inevitably breaking down and being 'fixed'. When working, the handles pretty well around town but is sluggish on motorways and hills.

My 3rd Corsa and I have never had any issues. Performance, ride, reliability, comfort and economy have been excellent. It is also wearing very well with no rattles or other noises. Will buy the new 2015 model.

Love the way the car looks very up to date and sporty, very disappointed In the performance of the car. It's defiantly not worth £16,000. The filter cloggs up at least 1 or 2 times a week, I have had the car 4 months and already from brand new and the engine management light has been on twice already. Apparently this is a fault in all Corsas due to the engine. Which means you are unable to drive the car and you have to take it straight into Vauxhall. If I had chance to buy this car again, I wouldn't.

The purchase went ok. I had to return it for an ECU software upgrade as the engine would shudder a little when idling but the rev needle wouldn't move. It's also a bit clunky between 1st and 2nd gear at times. I was told at the 2nd service that I needed new brake pads and the discs were close to the limit. I can understand the brake pads needing replacing but not the discs - I've had cars over 5 years old and never replaced a disc (only had one set skimmed due to a non related issue). Overall, it's a good car and holds 4 adults well (with reduced leg room due to my height). Boot space is sufficient for a few suitcases. Consumption has been up to 82mpg on the motorway (A40/M40) but anywhere from 55-75mpg is the average with motorway and city driving. Small enough to squeeze into small parking spaces but got power to get up hills with no issues.

This car only had less than 5000 miles on it when I bought it with a full service history from a friend of my mother's. When it reached about 8000 miles it started with the dreaded clutch judder. I wrote to Vauxhall who told me I would need to take it to a dealer who would make arrangements to inspect it. They indicated that they SOMETIMES paid for this sort of thing out of warranty but I can't afford to pay for this on the off chance that they might reimburse me. I have seen this mentioned so many times on forums but Vauxhall seem unwilling to admit the problem. I will never buy another one.

This is a great car, looks good, drives well and has been very reliable. Fantastic driving position and excellent visibility (especially rear visibility) when compared to rivals. Insurance is reasonable and road tax is £145. Slight problems after 1 year with spark plugs carbonizing and water pump leaking which were quickly fixed by dealer and overall I can't fault this car as it has never let me down.

Had the car for 3weeks from brand new. Within 1 mile of driving knew there was a problem with brakes, main dealer said they all grind from new but after owning for 1 week it had to go back for complete brake overall, now at 3 weeks old radio screen has packed up, windscreen washers do not work and checking oil yesterday found lumps of aluminium in the oil on the dipstick. This was my first ever brand new car , what a disappointment wish I had kept my old one

I have several two new Fiestas and I disagree totally with car buyers very low rating of the Corsa. I test drove the new Fiesta first then the Corsa, and if you were buying on looks alone you would buy the Corsa. The new front end of the Fiesta is just so bulbous and ugly, I stood and looked at it for some time and wondered why a front end design on such a popular car could be signed off for production, It's a real horror, and on looks alone, I would not buy another. The Corsa on the other hand, lovely balanced rounded, plying to the eye design, everything is where it should be, great exterior and interior design, driving position and all round equipment levels on the LE edition I bought. car buyers road testers need to get real, because people that actually own the cars, feel like they are driving a different vehicle to the one tested and rated by the the errrr experts. I can't help that notice, that Vauxhall get a pretty rough ride from the motoring press, but confound the negative reviews, with increased car sales, which is what really matters.

Just recently picked up my Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Limited Edition with additional extras of Touch and Connect Sat Nav, Teflon Coated seats / paintwork and xenon bulb upgrade all done by vauxhall. The Corsa is very geared up compared to my old 1.2 Corsa c pulling out of a junction in 2nd feels like pulling away in 3rd in my old one. i do find the new one has more power and is a lot more practical in terms of features and size. Don't bother with the 1L engine you'll get more out of a lawnmower but the 1.2 can just manage the weight of the car although i would say the 1.4 turbo is the best for most people. Very smooth drive for low profile tyres and harder suspension but would well recommend to anyone a very comfy reliable car!
