I bought this car because I wanted another VW but not a Golf. I have owned 3 Mk 2 Golfs, a Vento TDI (Golf Mk 3 with a boot) - still have it after nearly 20 years service - a Mk 5 Golf GT TDI 170, and the Scirocco in the last 30 years. Styling is important to me, and I think the styling elements on this car are amazing if you take the time to look and examine them all. I did not buy because I wanted to be able to take beds to tips - it won't do that. I bought it as a treat for my mid fifties to replace the Mk5 which ultimately I did not like, and because it came up as an ex demonstrator at my local VW Dealer at the right time and a good price, had an excellent set of extras, (6 speed DSG, Satnav, Parking sensors, 19" wheels, panoramic sunroof, leather interior) and cost £9,000 less than the new list price 10 months earlier with only 9,700 miles on. I can fit my model boats into the boot when I fold the seat down, it purrs along the motorway, can get 45mpg out of it on a long trip if I drive sensibly, is a comfortable and pleasant place to be. The ride can be a bit hard at times but I prefer that to soggy handling. After 4 years I have now reached 36,000 miles on the clock so hardly mega mileage. Problems - a few, but nothing to stop me driving it. Had a new aircon compressor fitted on extended warranty by dealer (would have cost ~ £800 if no warranty), new drivers door window switch-bit prone to water dropping into it when open door!, new drivers side headlight as plastic holding the bulb in had distorted a little so bulb didn't work, A new rear shock absorber under extended warranty due to a small oil leak. The car has the adjustable suspension option as standard which is useful on differing surfaces of road. Not standard any more. Love it. White car.

Brilliant. i work as a car buyer so drive many different cars on a daily basis. From Audi A7's to Corsa's, ive driven the lot. And yet I have never driven a car that is as good to drive as the VW Scirocco. Granted I only have the 1.4 petrol engine, but its turbo charger producing almost 160 bhp is still blisteringly fast when you floor it, and it makes a cracking noise as well. After my 6 months of owning it and 40000 total miles over the cars total life, it ha had not a single mechanical issue, and everything feels qualtiy and and very well considered. One of the highlights of the driving experience is how smooth and easy changing gear in the manual is, after all the cars I have driven I have never changed gear so smoothly in anything else. Oh and handling is probably the best of any small coupe like this, not to mention better than most hatchbacks. The only drawbacks are of course the lack of a fifth seat and the shrunken space in the back, but lets be honest, if thats what you're concerned about then go be normal and buy a golf. but if you are more admittedly image-concious and want a great looking coupe car that you can enjoy looking at when you walk out the front door, then this is ideal. Its rivals are almost ugly in comparison, and if you can afford the extra cash then one of the crazy 280bhp R versions are a dream. Buy One!

Whilst the shape of the car is not for the purists, from most angles the Scirocco is undoubtedly eye-catching. (It does look a little squashed and tired side-on). The power delivery of 1.4 160 is very linear, and the turbo shifts the car very smartly along at higher speeds. The supercharger doesn't really compensate for the car's 240 NM, however, and despite the nice sounding rasp of the engine you can feel the car having to work hard in the lower ranges. As far as the interior goes, it’s a case of beauty being only skin-deep. VW cabins have never been the most inspiring of places, but the Sirocco’s pit, based on the MK6 Golf, hasn’t aged well. Even in the newer GTs the line of equipment line is perfunctory. The DSG box is marvellous: gear changes are quick and smooth, and at higher gears the changes are almost imperceptible. As with all autos, once you get to know how the car reacts to throttle responses, a combination of engine speed and the throttle can be used to keep the car moving flexible through the gears, and the kick-down can be fun when this combination has been learnt and perfected. The DSG boxes are known to be quite sensitive to throttle response from standing start, and axle tramp can be an issue when first learning how to drive the car. The 7 speed DQ200 ‘dry’ box fitted to the lower engines in the VW group of cars (including Audi, Seat and Leon) is not as slick as the 6 speed ‘wet’ box fitted to the larger engine Sciroccos, however, and comes with a large sticker of warning for cars built before 2013. Many users have reported juddering in low gear with the DQ200, and which appears to be due to deposit build up on the clutch faces. As for my car, this tends to happen around the 20-30K mark, and requires replacement with an upgraded clutch pack. If the car doesn’t come with a well-backed warranty, this will set you back 1K or more. The bigger issue, however, comes from faulty injectors that make the car run rich. This leads to misfires and if not identified early enough, will lead to piston and piston bore damage, due to excessive petrol washing away the micron film of oil in the cylinders. Next stop is loss of compression on one or more cylinders, followed by complete engine failure. VW have of course dropped the engine from their range of cars (though claiming emission compliance as the reason for having done so). Google searches on this will show the issue. The two problem areas – the clutch weakness of the 7 speed box and the reliability issues of the 1.4 160 – mean that a very large health warning comes with this particular model of the car. Poor build quality. Electrics have mind of their own, when you open the car the drivers door window drops to ease opening of the door. But when you take the key out of the ignition the driver and passenger windows drop, even when there is no one in the passanger seat so all it does is let in rain and snow onto the passenger seat. Headlights have started going grainy. It is quite fast and it sounds good as it is pulling through the revs but everytime I pull away there is a loud squeal from the clutch release bearing, which is a common fault with 2.0 tsi engines which VW have no interest in fixing. Don't try and put anyone in the rear seats unless they are small and flexible. Boot is small but you expect that on this type of car but the shape and the huge load lip is annoying. Also you can only open the boot using the key or a switch on the drivers door which is very annoying, there is no boot release switch on the actual boot. I bought the car because I thought it would be a well built reliable German built car but it has been the complete opposite.

I bought my Car as an EX-Demonstrator model. fully loaded with extras which made all the difference. This car can not stop turning heads after 3 years of ownership. I have had every man and his dog approach me to talk about it and I must say driving it, looking at it and cleaning it have been such a delight. More practical than rival brands and stands out amongst the crowd. I liked it so much I'm buying another with even more fun toys to play with. Economy is great for the 2.0L engine and drives like a dream. hitting pot holes can be a shock with the 19" lugano wheels but they managed to hold together well. Cabin is quiet and driver friendly. Getting in and out is a bit of a squeeze for taller passengers with the car being lower most people tend to hit their head getting in. Interior sound system is superb but i've opted for the upgraded system this time. I am yet to lose grip round corners as much as I have pushed the car it creates such a sense of stability and control you never feel like it will let you down. ACC button in RHD vehicles is located in an odd position probably due to the LHD markets. Affordable to buy, affordable to run. Fun to drive and turns heads. So happy I'm buying another :)

Think VW have compromised quality for performance on this model. Great to drive and love every minute. However, lacks storage and rear passenger luxuries such as; rear vents for heat / cooling which was on my previous golf GTI. Doesn't seem to have much stow away compartments in the boot, as in the cheaper golf. Also, I can't seem to get the Bluetooth to work as simply as it should. Looks nice? Yes! Drives nice ? Yes! Interior quality, (where you spend most of your time)? No!

Overall vw have brought an excellent product to market. Well built, refined, swift and although relatively quick, good economy. But i don't understand why they do not offer the 211ps / 350nm torque variant of their excellent 2.0ltr petrol turbo found in other vag cars (tt, a5, q5 etc) and only offer the 210ps / 280nm torque.

It makes me smile to look at it makes me smile to drive it is fun fast and economical with great power little turbo lag. its quick when i want it to be and has toys that make driving a pleasure. it will accommodate 4 adults which my audi tt certainly wouldn't. vw were a pleasure to but from whereas audi were snooty and unhelpful. my diesel 170 is great to drive and sounds more like a petrol when accelerating with its throaty rumble from the exhaust. yep they got it right..

The scirocco is a stunning looking car and is a lot of fun to drive. The handling is like a go-kart on a track yet it is still comfortable on long journeys. Fuel consumption in the diesel is great, averaging 55mpg. The only downside is that the built quality is not up to vw's usual good standard. There are a few rattles and squeeks in the cabin on a car that's only done 10k miles. I sold my previous car, 56reg vw jetta, after 3 years and 80k miles without any cabin rattles or any malfunctions.

I think the scirocco is fantastic. The car is beautifully styles yet still practical, drives and handles fantastically and is more practical than you would expect. It is also economical being a diesel. It still gets heads turning after nearly 2 years. I plan to change my car this year and would most likely get the more powerful diesle version of the scirocco, nothing else around would tempt me at the moment to change.
