I absolutely love this car. I bought the 2WD version for the economy. I average 45mpg around town but on journeys I get between 55 & 60 mpg. Superb build quality and no faults at all.

My car at needed a new DSG gearbox at 26,000 miles as it was slipping constantly. They fixed this in April, and it now has 39000 miles on the clock with a full Skoda service history. More recently the engine started rattling so I took it to the dealer, which found that the timing belt tensioner had broken. I am utterly disappointed with the quality of this car. Two very expensive and major components failed well before time. Skoda are not interested as it’s out of warranty. I have never had a car with such major things failing so early on. I will not be buying another VAG again

This Yeti is our third Skoda, we previously had Octavias, which were so reliable and comfortable but we wanted a car easier to get into, my husband having had both hips replaced. We chose the top of the range petrol and 4x4 so fuel economy is far lower than the last Octavia, which was a diesel. I am getting 40mpg on the motorway now after 15k miles on the clock. MOT is due in a month and it's fully main-dealer serviced. I use it very much like a workhorse and can pile the inside high with items for the skip. Then when I put the seats up again, I return to a luxurious and very comfortable vehicle which drives very much like a normal car. I like the small footprint, now that I am widowed. It isn't a flash car, so I feel perfectly safe driving and know it will still be where I parked it but it is a nice looking car. I am up and down to my allotment and am always able to negotiate the grass and bumpy track.

Initially pleased with this car. Great styling, perfect size and power when needed. I bought it ex-motability at 3 years old with only 14k on the clock. It needed a new air-conditioning condenser straight away. After a year I noticed rust spots developing at back of rear doors. My local Skoda garage said it was because clear plastic foils had been removed after purchase and refused any warranty claim. Fortunately the local spray shop I took it to said that they had re-sprayed many of these earlier Yetis and the foils were a post 2010 addition by Skoda! Skoda then reluctantly coughed up for £500 re-spray, foils and £200 worth of hire car for a week. After two years the EGR valve went. Skoda would have charged £2500 for replacement but I managed to get it done (by Halfords!) for £800. Skoda cheekily offered to supply the part for free (thereby more or less accepting a generic fault) - but as this was merely a fraction of their estimate I told them to stuff their goodwill. Sadly in moving the engine and gearbox forward to access the valve, Halfords punctured the radiator which they were good enough to replace at their own expense. Six months later the Turbo started to whine and sure enough it blew. I didn't even give Skoda the opportunity to insult me with an estimate and got an aftermarket one fitted by a VAG approved service centre for £1100. About this time It needed its third aircon condenser (£400). A few months ago it developed an intermittent electrical fault which I never got to the bottom of despite a new battery and starter motor (another £300). After much faffing about the fault cleared but I was told at this time that the clutch was knocking badly and it was going to be about £600 to replace the flywheel etc. At this point I thought enough is enough and got rid of it. It had 70k on when I sold it and was six and a half years old. It was immaculate internally and externally but mechanically dubious. I can only say that despite all the hype and good write-ups, this car was a self-digging money pit and a huge disappointment. My local Skoda dealership had been distinctly unhelpful throughout my troubles. Despite this I was still quite taken with the design, style and power and thought that I couldn't be so unlucky a second time round with another Yeti. See how I got on in CHAPTER TWO!!!!.........

I bought this car about three months ago, from our local Skoda dealer. It is mainly used for transporting wood, tools etc. to and from a range of jobs. Having looked at a range of different vehicles, I chose the Yeti because of its carrying capacity, versatility and the fact that we have owned three Skodas, in the past, which have all been excellent and reliable cars. However, this one, with only 58,000 miles on the clock, is proving to be the 'problem child' of the family. The engine/transmission has a curious vibration, especially noticeable on setting off. This does not manifest itself on the move. The engine has gone into 'limp home mode' on three occasions. The first time, the fault was apparently the fuel sensor. The second time, it was the spark plugs, which were replaced and the third time is yet to be investigated, by Skoda, at a charge of £69 , for the diagnostics. Bearing in mind that I have only owned the car for three months and have covered 650 miles, this is ridiculous! I hope Skoda can find the real fault, but don't hold out much hope. Maybe it's a case of 'cutting my losses' and getting rid of it. Shame, because the Yeti could be a great car. Mine, however appears to be the proverbial 'bag of spanners!' What to buy to replace it though? Any ideas?

I bought this from new with 0% and a 3 year service deal. It has recently had a major long-life (variable) service, having done around 50,000 mixed driving miles. Had two sets of tyres at 25,000 and 48,000 miles (Nexxen n8000's are great and really cheap-under £200 for 4x17" fully fitted!) and it averages 45mpg. No issues with reliability so far, with just the occasional drop of oil required-keep a litre bottle of 5/30w fully synthetic handy. Pluses. Fun and easy to drive. Great visibility. Practical. Cheap to run (Ins Gp 12, 45-50mpg). Good quality cabin materials/well put together-soft touch in places and the harder plastics lower down actually make it more practical. Negatives. Not the most refined (gruff diesel, fairly large amount of wind noise/not the best insulation vs external noise of engine and other stuff happening outside, suspension set-up does not smooth pot-holes or speed bumps well, with these coming through to the cabin in a harsh manner at times).

Got our Yeti autumn last year and it is by far the best vehicle I have owned. The major appeals were the low fuel cost, family friendly interior (very 'open' cabin) and ride height (rural location). What I didn't expect was for it to be so great to drive, and this is just the diesel version so petrol must be epic. For everyday use the Yeti is just effortless to drive, extremely responsive and the suspension works like a charm. However if you want to treat it a bit rough and throw it around it will do that too. On the rare occasion I can get the rear end to step out it bites back almost instantly. The brakes are sharp without being brutal and if you want to use all your gear revs it will go quick! Motorway cruising could be quieter but I'll live with that considering my budget and the long list of plus points.

I traded my 2014 Volvo V40 XC for a new Yeti when my Volvo became uncomfortable and lacked the increased space I required. I love my Yeti and for the most part is easy to drive, comfortable and the increased ride height gives more confidence on the road whether in town or on the dual carriageway. A huge cabin, large boot and the seemingly infinite loading options make it a fantastic choice...or so I thought. Within 2 days of ownership the EPC, Traction Control and Emissions System warning lights illuminated so I booked it in at the dealership who managed to find absolutely nothing wrong...a week later and the RAC were called again to the warning lights AND a grinding noise from a suspect transmission servo...now driving an awful excuse for a courtesy car while my Yeti is being repaired. Despite it's faults I'm confident that my Yeti will be returned better than ever and I can continue with endless hours of driving pleasure.

A really good vehicle, clean lines, plenty of internal space with drop down rear seats, well laid out cockpit with lots of nice touches. Lots of energy from the 2 litre diesel engine, good seating position with clear all round vision, good quality, well priced vehicle. This is our 3rd Yeti.

We love the Yeti for its practicality and space - and it looks great - but unfortunately, we've been dogged by reliability problems, excess oil & petrol consumption, poor dealership service and so on. To start with, the dual mass flywheel (DMF) failed and had to be replaced after 35k miles and 4 years, but it was actually making a noise and started from just two years old! The dealer ignored this until the car was out of warranty but when we complained for the fourth time, they investigated, found the problem and Skoda offered to pay part of the cost. It still cost us over £700 for a new clutch and flywheel however. I'm on the same clutch on my other car, a 13-year old BMW. The air-con compressor has now also failed after 4 years. It lasted 12 years in my BMW. We've been quoted £500+ just for the part, plus labour on top. It drinks oil - I have to top up constantly, and bizarrely we've had to add coolant more than once. That particular warning light came on again this morning. The petrol consumption is nowhere near that advertised - I can barely make the Lake District from Surrey cruising at 70mph and am lucky to get 30mpg. My 2002 2.0-litre BMW does it with a quarter of a tank remaining at nearly 40mpg. The brochure quotes 36.2 average MPG and 478-mile range. No chance! The supposed 60-litre fuel tank won't ever fill to 60 litres. As soon as you get to 50 it cuts out and if you drip feed it for ten minutes, you'll get to 55 litres. My BMW will take 61 litres in its 60-litre tank when empty. And the dealer hasn't been great - when we bought it, we were mis-sold certain items as the brochure was contradictory and misleading. Since then, the dealer has returned the car to us after a service with oil leaking everywhere (deformed sump plug from over tightening), no courtesy cars despite my driveway being covered in oil, and they've ignored us when we highlighted problems under warranty. Finally, it's not just reliability - it's actually quite dangerous in some aspects - for instance when driving in rain, the water comes off the windscreen and streaks across the drivers window, so you can't see the wingmirrors - lethal on the motorway and apparantly due to the shallow rain gutter on the windscreen itself. Overall it's a great car, but let down badly by these problems. I wouldn't buy another.

Having owned a Mk1 Octavia vRS estate for 10 years and being very happy with it, I bought my Yeti online, new and delivered to my door, at a £5,000 saving on the book price. The 1.8 petrol L&K is a hoot to drive, almost as fast as the Octavia vRS and can corner as if on rails - it leaves boy racers and all but the most pokey Q3 and Tiguans disappearing in the rear view mirror. I love the versatility, build quality and style of the Yeti, screwed together by some of the best engineers in the world, the Czechs, at a fraction of the bloated prices that the average VW and Audi badge snobs seem willing to pay. What's not to like?

When its third annual service and first MOT were approaching, the dealer contacted us to arrange an appointment. I asked them also to investigate a clutch slipping problem that was materialising. This problem was a worn out clutch plate which had damaged the dual mass flywheel. Both needed replacing at less than 23,000 miles! The dealer refused to honour the car's warranty as they said it was fair wear, inferring I suppose, that I had burnt it out. I told them that my other, older car was working fine and that I had never burned out a clutch in my long driving career. "Sorry, sir. That will be £1,400" they said. I part-ex'd it for a Beemer thankfully before this latest VW fiasco erupted.

The Yeti has to stand up to the comparison with our main car - a Mercedes E-Class. Bearing in mind the price difference, the Yeti has a good spec, is comfortable, handles well and has no reliability or build problems. I happily use this car daily saving the Merc for high days and holidays.

Was happy with my Yeti until a few weeks ago when it suffered a total gearbox failure. I was quoted nearly £5,000 to repair although some of this may be covered under the extended warranty I had bought. However, today informed that the prices for the replacement parts quoted by Skoda were wrong and it is going to cost nearly an additional £2,000. This is getting ridiculous and I could buy a new small car for what this repair is going to cost. Contacted Skoda directly who were not very sympathetic and basically said as out of warranty nothing they can do to help. However I really do not think a gearbox should fail catastrophically after only 45,000 miles and unfortunately I bought this car thinking it would be reliable.

Disappointing to be honest. And thats difficult to say when spending £16K on a second hand car. First wash indicated to me the wheel arch liner and some interior trim had never been fitted properly and that was the start of the questionable build quality. New dash pod, diff dampener, handbrake trim, Haldex sender, fuel pump, brakes (corroded). I finally got shot as I suspect the DMF was clanking. On the 17in wheels the ride is not good at all (I have hard sports cars and its just a bad set up on the Yeti). Stereo is the worst I have had in any car for sound. I could see bad paint at the bottom of doors. The car was babied by the previous owner and me alike. The plus points, it can be fun, its seats fold quick so useful, xenon headlamps brilliant as was heated windscreen, easy to drive for anyone despite it being large(ish). Frankly the dealers had my car far too often. I sold it to my mind, with the fuel pump making too much noise as was the flywheel, all before the car made 35k, its going to be an expensive car to own. I'm glad I kept the old Fabia still (2006 car 123k) as its 10 time the quality, with half the list price. I'm really concerned that Skoda will find it tough in a few years now quality isn't number 1 priority. Oh, and its been a long time since I owned a car that needed down changes to get up a hill, wheres the 170 BHP going? its quick in low gears but really slow in 4/5/6.

I have a 2012 Skoda Yeti and I found rust in all 4 doors less than 12 months after I got it. The doors where repainted but 8 months later the rust came back. It looks like I am getting the doors repainted one more time, under warranty. It is likely that the rust in this Skoda Yeti is here to stay, so I am getting rid off it. Otherwise the car is OK. But the dealership needs to do something about its service regards to car under warranty.

Had this car 6 weeks, it's been back to the dealer for a shortage of oil. The paints peeling on the bonnet hinge and the finish on the bonnet is flat like it as been reprinted. Went on my hols 4 weeks ago and the DSG gear box decided it was going to change from 4th to 1st at 40 miles an hour and shoot us across the road. My wife's scared to drive it. The dealer as replaced the gear box. 3 weeks later they dropped the car back to me at 10pm the seats were oily and the car was dirty. No one at Skoda seems interested. I have told them I no longer want this car but no one seems to be listening at Skoda. I have made app 30 calls to Skoda and to this day the hire car is still on my drive and no one at Skoda seems interested in collecting it. Anyway shame on you Skoda for you lack of customer service and I am defiantly not a happy driver.

Owned for nearly 4 years, with mixed town driving, M1 100 mile runs, and 3 x a year trips to France with 2 children & luggage. There have been no actual faults, although the engine warning system did come on 1 day after the 3 yr warranty expired, with my dealer (and Skoda) not committing themselves to supporting me, until i'd paid for an extended warranty (cost me £500 for additional 2 years). After investigations, was informed it was a sensor error. I dont know if this was a good or bad thing, as i spent the £500, however nothing has gone wrong with the car. Front tyres needed replacing at 24k, rear tyres at 35k miles. Overall i've loved having the Yeti, but the ride has been quite firm and it's never been as quick as i'd want. Still, the trade off has been good handling, and once you get some speed up you can chuck it around corners nicely. I do note with interest though that over the past 4 years, Skoda seemed to have jacked up the prices quite significantly (model for model), so whilst i'd happily recommend my model, including self park, for the £17,500 i paid in 2010, i'm not sure i'd direct others to Skoda quite so quickly today.

I have had much problems with my Yeti. 1. Rust. See more below 2. Electric problems. My windows goes up and down on their own. Only during wet months october to march. No one know why. VW has problems with galvanisation of certain car models (I’ve read about Passat and A4 and Skoda Yeti). I have a 2010 Skoda Yeti where I found rust in 2012. It was repainted in summer of 2012 and now in 2013 the same problem pops up again. VW will not fix the problem again because it is a few months over a 3 year warranty. But it's the same problem that occurred after only 2 years. They made the paint job just to keep me happy until the 3 year guaranty period passed. I have talked to paint shops and been told that if there is a galvanisation problem it is no use to cover it with new paint. The only way to solve it is to get new metal that is galvanised in a correct way. But I guess that VW has no interest in changing my 5 doors. When I talked to the VW authorised paint shop they told me that VW has had this problem with a few of their models. Now I’m stuck with a Yeti that is rusting rapidly (the rust expand quickly when the galvanisation is bad). The biggest problem is not that a fault has occurred on my car, but that VW is hiding the problem to save cost.

After all the goods reviews I read on the Yeti, I just wanted one. Have been very pleased with the car, so many great features on this model. Fuel consumption has been excellent, I have been using the expensive Shell diesel mainly for several months now. This seems to have improved my mpg by approx 10 mpg according to the computers display from avg 42 to 52 mpg avg. The Skoda dealership and Skoda have been great in my experience, when the car had to be returned for a couple of problems under warranty. The last one being near side cv joint knocking noise. The only gripe I have found is the sun visors are not deep enough, making driving westward towards a low setting sun difficult . Have got over this by purchasing some cheap plastic extensions from Amazon.

This is our 2nd Yeti, we replaced it with the same model different colour, with added hillhold + ESP after the first one went back after it's 3 year lease had expired. I disagree with the body roll in corners comment, as I push this car hard and find the cornering very flat and sure-footed, like a little mountain goat! Really the only small criticism is the boot could be bigger, but at the end of the day this is a small crossover. Winter tyres are essential for a Yeti if you have to drive in snow during winter months. I would recommend this car to anyone in the market for a small SUV, and often get stopped by people asking questions about the car. Unlike a lot of crossovers the real world fuel economy can be as high as 63mpg in the summer and 45-50 during the winter. That's experience of driving this car with 5 people and a large dog onboard.

Nothing but trouble with this car. I've lost count of the warranty claims. Skoda UK have done their best to help but the local dealership in the Highlands have been completely incompetent. Twice re-sprayed due to corrosion ABS warning harness failed (left stranded) Turbo failed (left stranded) Drop link failed Two wheel bearings failed HT leads failed (left stranded) Door hinges came loose Headlight levellers have a mind of their own Bulb-out warning light with no blown bulbs Corrosion on alloys Brake discs warped And on top of that dealer errors that were completely shocking. It's a great shame as otherwise it's a great car. I get 45+ mpg from the lovely smooth engine. It's quiet and comfortable to drive and it functions as a great load lugger with the rear seats out. Just wish it would stop breaking down all the time....

Unbelievably bad and over-rated. Terrible build quality, kept breaking down and there was not a single day when everything worked. Ponderous handling and poor ride, the only car I've been car sick in and that was while driving. Rattle, nasty interior. Agricultural, noisy and rough engine consumed vast amounts of fuel and oil. Truly terrible customer and dealer support. Glad to see the back of the heap after 10 months of hell.
