Comfortable, well-equipped car that does everything well. Engine and gearbox provide plenty of power and torque, which makes driving very easy both in town and on motorways. Handling is firm enough for country roads but comfortable. The dash is well laid out with touchscreen media, sat nav and bluetooth. The orange backlighting to buttons might not be to everyone's taste compared to VW blue/white, and the touch screen isn't the sharpest resolution, but it's a well-equipped car. Previous Avensis was extremely reliable and this one has proved the same thus far. Toyota garages are caring and provide excellent service, so despite the auto press giving negative reviews about this car it is an excellent and good value family estate!

One failure ( Air con pipes) out of warranty and refused recompense by third party warranty. One engine management valve failure in warranty - replaced Otherwise only service items in 70,000 miles.

A smooth quiet ride. Seems well built and reliable like most Toyotas. Good for everyday commuting. Some problems with a weird clicking noise in the rear that so far two Toyota dealers have not been able to locate and correct.

THE CAR HAS BEN FINE UNTIL THE AUTO GEARBAOX LINKEAGE FAILED WHICH WILL COST Ł600 TO REPAIR THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND THE CAR IS NOW OFF ROAD WAITING AT A DEALERS FOR THE PART WHICH MAY TAKE A WEEK!!!

Had one as a company car, until it was taken off me after I exceeded the lease mileage by 50k. After 125k miles all it needed was tyres and two headlight bulbs. The 10k service interval was a bit of a bind, got to know my dealer very well "You were only just here, weren't you?" Not the most exciting thing to drive, but when you've done 8 hours work after a 4 hour drive with 4 hours home it was a painless trouble free drive.

I am using it for private hire but fuel economy is never more than 45mpg and the ride is terrible. The engine is noisy and there is a lot of creaking and rattles from inside. Mine has a massive sunroof and the rear floor is flat for middle passenger. May go for a Prius next because the ride is terrible and never settles .

Bought this car as a taxi 5 years ago and have just hit 220,000 miles. This car has been excellent — reliability second to none. The only parts I have had to replace are two CV joints, a wheel bearing, a radiator hose and radiator along with normal servicing parts. As a taxi you would expect to signs of wear but the interior and exterior have coped very well and are like new. I get positive feedback all the time from customers on how nice a ride it is and how spacious the car is. I regularly average 43mpg on local runs and up to 58mpg on long runs. I felt that after five years and 220,000 miles of happy motoring on the same clutch this car deserved a mention. When I change my car is will be buying another Toyota Avensis.

A large diesel estate isn't ever going to be the most exciting car in the world, but if you're after something spacious, reliable and economical this could be the car for you. Not exactly the quickest off the mark but in gear acceleration is good - especially on motorway trips. It's also good on fuel - on a brim to brim test of over 300 miles of mixed driving it returned just over 40MPG. The only problems I have had with it are that is doesn't like cold starts (not sure if that is just mine or if it is a problem in general for diesel Toyotas) and it has quite a poor turning circle. This coupled with the long length can make tight turns a bit tricky! Other than that, I would recommend this car.
