This is an update to my original review of my A1. It has now reached its third birthday, and still impresses with its magnificent build quality, and interior refinement. Its been utterly reliable, nothing has gone wrong with the vehicle, and it returns very impressive fuel economy of over 70mpg, during its long journeys to visit friends and relatives. The car has never been used for city commuting, and only does long journeys, so i have never had any issues with its particulate filter, a thing one must alway's be wary about, if the vehicle is used for short journeys. Like all A1s, it was not a cheap car to purchase new, but with still two years remaining on my 5yr Service plan, it will keep ownership of it for some years to come. Surprisingly, the insurance for my car has fallen to only £152 full comp, and it still remains free to tax annually. The car is built to last, and still looks almost like new, i almost feel that the initial purchase cost has been justified. Its been totally reliable, is a joy to drive, and is still worth over half its initial value after three years.

Plus points Well finished, Quiet mechanicals,. Minus points Very cramped rear space, appalling amounts of road noise, no cruise control, delays setting off with auto box can be two seconds before it moves on releasing brake, depressing the accelerator just makes it lurch. Steering feels remote, ride poor. Overall seems like a dressed up poorer model a bit to much form over function.

My first Audi, coming up to three years old (81,000 miles) and it's been faultless. Ok, so I find the boot too small and nobody likes sitting in the back but I bought it for me and I love it. It's time to change though so I'm having a Sportback with the same 1.6 diesel engine but this time the S Tronic gearbox. Hopefully five doors will hush the back seat moaners a bit. The boot's no bigger so that's still going to annoy me but hey, the seats fold so I'll live. It's expensive to buy but I'm more than happy with the trade in price. A cheaper car would have lost money faster and just been a smaller contribution to the next one at PX time so it's neither here nor there.

Having owned an A3 from new previously and experienced poor reliability I thought myself unlucky. However I am wholly disappointed with the reliability experienced with this Audi A1. Issues with the emissions sensor, costly EGR valve replacement, start/stop system failure to name but a few. As to the frugality claims on consumption, I consider myself a conservative driver and have struggled to reach anywhere near the figures claimed. In summary, this is an attractive car with admirable qualities that simply falls flat on its face due to appalling reliability issues: something that should not be associated with the Audi badge...

I have had this car for 3 years. It has been back to the garage on average about once every 6 months for various problems. Good stuff- it looks great and feels good inside. However, after first month of owning I couldn't get into my petrol cap to fill up (this was a recall issue). The car kept losing power through the battery due to poor grounding (another recall issue). Stop start system was very unreliable (new fuel pump fitted). Horrible creaking sound through forward bulkhead (new engine mount). Constant rattling from underside of car audible on lovely summer drives (sounds like an 81 plate Escort on hill climbs) this remains unresolved (best to drive in winter with windows closed). Currently in garage after power steering failure (still in there ). Have had to fill the engine with oil on two occasions despite scheduled services. My lease is up very soon and cant wait to see the back of the car (one of the attractive aspects). Good customer care from Audi, though this does wear thin after a while (something the offer of a coffee and leather sofa will not resolve). I thought I would never say this, but I have been using a Toyota Yaris whilst car in garage as Audi couldn't give me a courtesy car, despite another major fault. The Yaris has been bliss to drive.

I've owned this A1 for a couple of years now. Good points: Quality interior, classy design, good performance for a 1.4T, smooth ride, great multimedia system, fun to drive on twisty roads. Problems: Recall for fuel cap, annoying fuel pipe rattle (both fixed under warranty) Apart from that it's one of the best cars I've owned so far.

Very happy with build quality and pleasing design. Main problem is excessive overrun explained by Audi as the result of powerful engine with a camparitive light body. This overrun problem can be quite frightening and possibly dangerous and takes some getting used to. Economy good, averaging 55mpg

Had this car for 2 years, can't wait to see the back of it if I'm honest. The good points first , the interior is modern and made with premium materials economy is not bad, but nowhere near the quoted figures, on smooth roads the car handles well, though there's not a ton of feedback through the steering, the coffee in the dealership was nice. The not so good stuff. the MMI unit has failed twice, audi have taken 3 - 4 weeks to replace and the first time failed to enable the bluetooth system on repair,funny smell from the aircon, 1.6 diesel is noisy and gruff, window seals preventing front windows from opening and closing, no room in the back, you can loose fillings going over potholes with the suspension. This is my second Audi and was a mistake with the benefit of hind sight , should have bough a Polo of the same spec and saved myself 3k

Lovely cabin, it feels like a big Audi made smaller and really does feel a cut above other small cars. Not as good to drive as a Mini nor as stylish as a DS3 but a grown up and mature car. Handling is safe and predictable, practicality perfectly acceptable for a small car. Sport trim is well equipped, much nicer than the SE and better value than the S Line. The engine is powerful enough with good torque but is very noisy on start up and widely spaced gear ratios make it feel slower than it actually is. My biggest complaint is that the economy is wildly optimistic, I am not a speedy driver but average about 52mpg, on a highway run it is low 60's, I get much better economy from a BMW 318d with is a heavier and also faster car. The DPF has been a recurring problem and the cabin has started displaying signs of creaking and squeeks. Overall a very good little car but I'd recommend the 1.4TFSI which is livlier and not that far behind the diesel economy wise in the real world.

I bought this car 18months ago. So far it has broken 6 times including lights completely filling with water, powersteerin pump failure, airbag failure, number plates falling apart, horn failure, sliding seat failure and strange smells coming from the aircon. I agree it looks great. It is currently, however, ruining my life spending hours upon hours waiting in for Audi roadside assist or sat at Audi dealers waiting for them to mend it. I would never recommend this car to anyone.

Audi recommended auto-glym lifeshine guarantee certificate has wrong registration number on it. Car set up for longlife service, sevice book ticked for inspection service. Interior door panel already developing scratches.
