The Hyundai Tucson has won Carbuyer Car of the Year for 2022 as part of this year’s Carbuyer Best Car awards.
Hyundai’s striking SUV impressed the Carbuyer judges with its design, interior, powertrains, driving experience and technology. Richard Ingram, Carbuyer editor, said: “The new Tucson is quite simply the best new car we’ve driven all year.”
Carbuyer Best Car Awards 2022 - the winners
As well as winning our coveted Car of the Year award, the Tucson was named Best Family Car and Best Hybrid Car for 2022. The Tucson’s triple win dethrones our previous Car of the Year, the Kia Sorento, a seven-seater SUV that remains a winner this year thanks to a victory in the Best Large Family Car category.
Hyundai enjoyed success elsewhere too, with the innovative Ioniq 5 taking Best Family Electric Car and Best Company Car gongs, while the brilliant i20 N was named Best Hot Hatchback.
Ashley Andrew, managing director at Hyundai Motor UK, said: “To win six awards including overall Car of the Year for our best-selling Tucson is another outstanding result for Hyundai and is testament to the design, quality, capability and value offered by our current model line-up.
“Our continued investment in new products and new technologies has enabled us to provide a comprehensive range of models to suit all customer requirements and as the awards continue to roll in, our customers can feel reassured that they are making the right decision when choosing Hyundai.”
Richard Ingram said: “A multiple award winner, the Hyundai Tucson is both our Best Family Car as well as our Best Hybrid Car for 2022. Lovely to drive, practical and easy to live with, it’s also cheap to run thanks to its hybrid powertrains. It’s the natural winner of Carbuyer’s overall Car of the Year.”
For the first time, we’ve also named the best used cars in a range of categories, reflecting the importance of the used-car market. The Ford Fiesta was named Carbuyer Used Car of the Year for 2022, as well as Best Used Small Car. The Fiesta, which has twice been named Carbuyer’s new Car of the Year, has an appeal that’s stronger than ever, and boasts an unrivalled choice on used-car forecourts. The full list of used car winners will be revealed on the Carbuyer website next week.
Of Ford’s used car triumph, Ingram commented: “The Ford Fiesta won our overall new Car of the Year title in both 2018 and 2019 – the only car to have taken top honours two years in a row. The blend of comfort, refinement, practicality and technology, as well as class-leading dynamics, make it impossible to beat. Sheer choice ensures the Ford Fiesta is a fantastic second-hand small car.”
The winners of the 2022 Carbuyer Best Car awards were announced on 6 October in a special video published on Carbuyer’s YouTube channel. The awards celebrate another year in which we’ve tested all the new and important cars that matter, maintaining our commitment to in-depth, definitive and jargon-free advice to help you buy the right car at the right price. We’re still the only automotive website to be accredited by the Plain English Campaign.
