The Jaguar I-Pace was one of the first electric SUVs to hit the new car market and now, after five years on sale, it’s undergone a refresh for 2023. The latest version debuts a reworked front end design as well as a revised trim level structure, topped off by a new flagship 400 Sport model.

The updated Jaguar I-Pace is available to order now, with prices starting from £69,995. Since it first launched, Jaguar’s sporty electric SUV has been joined by a number of premium rivals such as the Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW iX and Mercedes EQE SUV.

Jaguar is renowned for its striking car designs and the I-Pace is one of the most distinctive-looking EVs on sale, thanks to its sloping roofline and squat stance. The update for 2023 introduces a revised front trim piece which resembles a grille from a combustion-engined car – this new ‘shield’ design is complemented by Atlas Grey elements on the front bumper which are intended to draw attention to the I-Pace’s already-aggressive air intakes.

Other subtle visual tweaks include a body-coloured rear diffuser, while the once-gloss-black elements on the doors now match the rest of the car’s paintwork, too. Speaking of which, Jaguar has introduced two new paint colours for 2023: the satin-effect Eiger Grey and the metallic Carpathian Grey.

Perhaps most impactful to buyers is the revised trim lineup; there are now four specifications to choose from: R Dynamic S, R Dynamic SE Black, R-Dynamic HSE Black and the range-topping 400 Sport. With prices starting at £69,995, you’d expect even the entry-level R Dynamic S to offer a plethora of standard equipment – and it does. All I-Pace models benefit from LED headlights, diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, heated front seats and a reversing camera.

The R Dynamic SE Black and R Dynamic HSE Black each start from £73,495 and £77,495 respectively, each providing an ascending level of equipment. Finally, the new 400 Sport model boasts exclusive 22-inch alloy wheels, adaptive air suspension for sharper handling and a better ride, a subtle boot spoiler and 14-way adjustable Windsor leather performance seats, which can be heated or cooled at the press of a button.

No matter which model you choose, all examples of the I-Pace come fitted with the same powertrain setup; twin electric motors provide an output of 396bhp, as well as all-wheel-drive. The sprint from 0-62mph takes just 4.5 seconds.

On a single charge, Jaguar claims the I-Pace will be able to cover 292 miles before needing to be plugged-in – this is significantly behind the 380 miles possible in the BMW iX. Also inferior to rivals is the I-Pace’s charging capability, which tops out at 100kW; rivals from Mercedes-Benz are able to charge at speeds of up to 170kW. When plugged into a compatible public rapid charger, owners can expect to charge their I-Pace from 10-80% in around 40 minutes.
