With bold looks and a well-crafted interior, the Peugeot 2008 already stands out in a sea of small SUVs – and a new mild-hybrid variant will only widen the French SUV’s appeal to a larger audience.
Alongside the new mild-hybrid 2008, Peugeot has added a more affordable battery option to its electric twin – the E-2008. Prices have been tweaked across the range, too, all of which is covered below.
What’s new for the Peugeot 2008 mild-hybrid?
The Peugeot 2008’s new mild-hybrid option is the same setup we’ve seen rolled out across other cars from parent-brand Stellantis, such as the Vauxhall Astra and Citroen C4. The system uses a 1.2-litre petrol engine along with a 28bhp electric motor for a combined power output of 138bhp. That’s roughly the same as the non-hybrid petrol engine, but Peugeot claims the system is designed to deliver improved efficiency.
The electric motor is integrated into a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which in turn drives the front wheels. Peugeot suggests the system will allow the 2008 to drive up to 0.6 miles under pure electric power, but being a mild-hybrid system, this is only intended for crawling in traffic or low-speed manoeuvring.
The electric motor will help to reduce the strain on the petrol engine when accelerating from a standstill, which has increased fuel efficiency – up to 62.1mpg is now achievable – and CO2 emissions, resulting in a lower Benefit-in-Kind tax bill for company car drivers compared to the petrol 2008.
What about the changes to the E-2008?
For the lowest tax bills, buyers will want to opt for the E-2008, which gets an additional battery option for 2024. The new 50kWh battery is smaller than the existing 54kWh unit, and range decreases as a result – down to 214 miles from 251. The electric motor is marginally less powerful, too, but the smaller battery comes at a lower price point.
How much do the new models cost and when can I order one?
The mild-hybrid 2008 starts from £27,770 – £3,600 more than the entry-level petrol variant. Top-spec GT models with all the kit cost from £31,970.
The E-2008 range now starts from £35,700, thanks to the smaller and more affordable battery. The larger 54kWh battery model is now only available in top-spec GT trim, costing £40,700.
All models are available to order now in the UK.
