Best car leasing deals 2024: this week’s top PCH offers

Our experts sift through the best car lease deals to save you money, including offers from MG, Peugeot and Volkswagen

MG HS SUV

When leasing a new car the sheer number of deals, payment terms and deals can seem almost overwhelming. That’s why our team of car experts keep an eye on the latest trends and only pick out the car leases with the biggest discounts on the best models. We also check the terms and conditions to make sure there are no surprises like stinging admin fees or excessive initial rental payments.

Our choices for this week’s round-up of the best leasing deals include the family-friendly MG HS SUV from only £211 a month, the stylish Peugeot 408 from £220, and the classy Volkswagen Golf for just £205.

Before signing on the dotted line, you’ll want to understand exactly how a leasing deal (also known as PCH) works, and how it differs from Personal Control Purchase (PCP) finance and Hire Purchase (HP). In its most basic terms, think of PCH as akin to renting the car on a long-term basis, while PCP allows you to pay off a car in instalments before deciding whether to buy it outright with a balloon payment or handing it back at the end of the term. Hire Purchase is more like a mortgage, where you pay monthly instalments until you own the car outright.

Along with cash purchases, these are the main methods of buying a new car in the UK, and the Carbuyer team also picks out the week’s best PCP car deals, along with some of our favourite used car deals of the week. A PCH deal is enticing thanks to its affordable prices, giving you access to new cars with very little hassle, but there’s typically no opportunity to own the car at the end of the term.

Best new car leasing deals – latest deals updated 25 July 2024

MG HS: £211 a month

MG HS SUV facelift rear 3/4 tracking

The MG HS is a practical and well-equipped family car, undercutting the competition in the mid-size SUV segment, but still offering decent levels of comfort and lots of standard safety kit.

Model: MG HS 1.5 T-GDI PHEV Auto SE

About this lease deal…

About the car…

  • Monthly payments: £211.19
  • Initial payment: £2,200.70
  • Fees: £299.99 (inc. in initial payment)
  • Mileage limit: 5,000
  • List price: £31,095
  • Efficient plug-in hybrid
  • Practical
  • Good standard equipment

The MG HS can’t really be considered a groundbreaking family SUV, but it does offer  decent value for money without overly compromising on practicality, comfort or safety. If you’re on a budget, then it could hold strong appeal. An impressive seven-year warranty and generous equipment levels will turn some heads, while if it fits with your lifestyle the plug-in hybrid powertrain means you could run everyday journeys on pure electric power.

Peugeot 408: £220 a month

Peugeot 408 deal

The Peugeot 408 is a great all-rounder; blending sporty SUV styling with hatchback and even saloon design cues, it offers a sharp look with good practicality. It’s not as good to drive as we’d like, but makes up for it with a sophisticated interior and useful tech.

Model: Peugeot 408 1.2 PureTech EAT8 GT

About this lease deal…

About the car…

  • Monthly payments: £219.90
  • Initial payment: £2,279.09
  • Fees: £299.99 (inc. in initial payment)
  • Mileage limit: 5,000
  • List price: £35,560
  • Comfortable
  • Good tech
  • Premium feeling interior

You won’t be wanting for style with the Peugeot 408, particularly in the cabin where it offers  a premium air with soft touch materials and sharp digital displays that really help it stand out. But overall practicality can’t be ignored, and the 408 comes up trumps here, too; it still provides decent interior space, with an impressive 536-litre boot, while average fuel economy of up to 48mpg means running costs shouldn’t be too taxing. The GT model offered in this particular deal brings standard kit such as 19-inch alloys, full matrix LED headlights, a heated steering wheel and a 10-inch touchscreen with integrated navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Volkswagen Golf: £205 a month

The Mk8 Golf remains a UK favourite, attracting buyers looking for a classy hatchback that combines sportiness, style and a decent drive. However, it doesn’t ride as well as it once did, and some may find elements of the onboard tech frustrating to use.

Model: Volkswagen Golf 1.5 TSI 150 Match

About this lease deal…

About the car…

  • Monthly payments: £205.04
  • Initial payment: £2,115.39
  • Fees: £269.99 (inc. in initial payment)
  • Mileage limit: 5,000
  • List price: £28,350
  • Classy image
  • Top safety rating
  • Still good to drive

The latest Golf is now lower and sleeker than the previous model, featuring slim LED headlights and a minimalist lower grille, along with ‘Golf’ script on the tailgate and more modern rear-light design. It’s just enough of a refresh to keep things interesting, although the interior is more questionable with a surprising drop in trim quality and its touch-sensitive slider for volume and interior temperature which is frustrating to use – particularly on the move. A 0-62mph time of 8.6 seconds means most will find this 1.5-litre TSI petrol-powered Golf rapid enough, while average fuel economy of around 50mpg should raise a smile.

Ford Puma: £271 a month

Ford Puma facelift

The Ford Puma small SUV is the Blue Oval’s best-selling car in the UK and it’s not hard to see why; stylish, practical and good to drive, it comes with an excellent level of standard equipment – even on this entry Titanium model.

Model: Ford Puma 1.0 Ecoboost Hybrid mHEV Titanium

About this lease deal…

About the car…

  • Monthly payments: £271.04
  • Initial payment: £2,733.36
  • Fees: £294 (inc. in initial payment)
  • Mileage limit: 5,000
  • List price: £25,800
  • Fun to drive
  • Practical
  • Good standard equipment

The Puma’s sporty, crossover stance works well and, despite selling in big numbers, it retains plenty of kerb appeal. That appeal extends to the driver, too, because the Puma is not only great operating as a small family car, but it’s also fun to pilot along twisty B roads and flick through corners. As mentioned above, the entry Titanium trim level provides generous amounts of standard equipment, including 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a rear camera with parking sensors, rear privacy glass, a 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12-inch landscape touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. There are also selectable driving modes to choose from; depending on conditions you can opt for either Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery or Trail.
