mazda mx-30 deal

If you’re buying a used car, it’s even more important to research the deals available thoroughly, and be open-minded to the best used car deals on offer. This can often save you lots of money if you’re prepared to consider different models.

To help you find the top used car deals in the UK, our team of experts regularly check the classifieds to look out for top models and great value prices.

This week's top picks include the electric Mazda MX-30 for under £140 a month and the sporty SEAT Ibiza FR for just £201 per month, along with our Abarth 595 wildcard: a characterful Italian city car with a rorty exhaust for under £10k.

Each week we’ll add a selection of the best used car deals, and move our past picks down the list while they are still available, so you can check those out too.

It’s important to avoid the potential pitfalls that can come with buying a used car, and we’ve got a guide explaining all the things to look out for. We’re featuring mainly nearly-new cars on this list, most of which are still within the manufacturer’s warranty and available on an approved used scheme, but also throwing in a wildcard in case you fancy something a little older and more interesting. However, we haven’t viewed these cars in person, so it’s important to check out their history, and ideally organise an inspection, before going ahead with a purchase.

Our pick of this week’s used car PCP deals…

Take your first foray into electric car ownership with this Mazda MX-30 that offers low running costs, and small-SUV practicality, with used prices from well under £140 a month.

  • Deposit: £2,000
  • APR: 9.9%
  • Cash price: £11,000

The Mazda MX-30 is the brand’s first-ever electric car, and the brand has injected some of its DNA to make it stand out in the EV crowd. It features rear-hinged doors that open the opposite way round – a quirk that harks back to the Mazda RX-8 sports car of the mid-2000s – and it’s fun to drive just like the MX-5 sports car. This approved used example is finished in white, and has done just 30,588 miles on a 71-plate. With a £2,000 deposit, you can have it for just £134 per month over 48 months, but you can tweak this for a cheaper deposit and slightly higher instalments if it better suits your budget.

Carbuyer wildcard: Abarth 595

Abarth 595 on track

Just because you live in a town or city, it doesn’t mean you want to hang up your driving gloves. The Abarth 595 is the perfect pocket rocket for ducking through traffic, and used examples are available on our parent site Carwow for under £10k.

Model: Abarth 595

About the deal…

About the car…

  • Cash price: £8-15k

Famously based on the Fiat 500, but with the dial turned up to 11, the Abarth 595 is a hot hatch of the old-school variety. A bigger and more powerful engine has been squeezed under its stubby bonnet, much stiffer suspension has been fitted, there’s an aggressive body kit and it even has a barking exhaust note. The results might not be the last word in refinement, but the 595 has a big character and an addictive feel from the driver’s seat.

Making the switch from a traditional petrol or diesel car to an EV might seem daunting, but few cars make the transition as easy as the Skoda Enyaq. It shares its architecture with the Volkswagen ID.4, but we think the Skoda is the better of the two, with a more intuitive interior and a bigger boot. Used Toyota Aygo X: £151 a month

aygo x used

If you want a stylish and reliable car it’s hard to beat the Toyota Aygo X. Prices are becoming seriously tempting – this example is just over £150 per month – and a long warranty means unexpected bills are highly unlikely.

The Toyota Aygo X is the latest evolution of the Japanese brand’s popular city car, which has now grown in both stature and abilities. It’s fitted with a frugal 1.0-litre petrol engine that’s capable of returning up to 58.9mpg. In fact, cheap running costs are the name of the game, and servicing at a Toyota dealership can keep the warranty intact for up to 10 years from new.

Used Volkswagen ID.3: £203 a month

id.3 used deal

The Volkswagen ID.3 was designed from the ground up to be electric, and despite its futuristic looks and near-silent motor, lightly used examples are now available for just £200 a month.

About the deal…

  • Monthly payments: 48 x £203
  • Deposit: £2,000
  • APR: 9.9%
  • Cash price: £15,999
  • Total payable: £20,122

The ID.3 represented a new era for Volkswagen, being its first model designed solely as an electric car and replacing the e-Golf. It has quite radical looks as a result, with an aerodynamic shape not too far off a shrunk-down high-speed train. It’s spacious inside thanks to its compact electric motor and low-slung battery pack, yet still has an impressive 201bhp and 265-mile range. This approved used example comes with a £500 deposit contribution, two-year warranty and five days of free insurance, following a 142-point check.

The Volkswagen T-Roc has proved a smash hit, blending a high seating position with coupe SUV looks and technology shared with the Golf. It’s good to drive, feeling more like a car than a 4x4 from behind the wheel, and it’s equally at home around town or on the motorway. This example is fitted with a thrifty 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine, returning up to 47.1mpg. Don’t be put off by this engine’s small size, a turbocharger means it can keep up with traffic without too much fuss. This one owner example comes with an MoT until March 2025.

Carbuyer wildcard: BMW i3: £8,750

bmw i3 deal

When BMW decided to manufacture its first all-electric model it didn’t hold back; the i3 still looks futuristic today, and its carbon-fibre construction is also rather space-age. Yet it can be had today for less than £10,000.

The i3 is brisk and surprisingly fun to drive, has proven reliable, and this car comes fitted with heated front seats and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Carbuyer wildcard: Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio: £31,495

alfa romeo giulia used deal

If Ferrari were to announce a compact saloon car, we expect the result would be pretty close to this Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio – and this used example is cheaper than a new Volkswagen Golf GTI.

About the car…

  • Cash price: £31,495

While the BMW M3 might have somewhat polarising looks, we haven’t heard anybody complaining about the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s design, which seems to pull off the trick of being beautiful and aggressive all at once. It’s also outrageously fast, with a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine sending 503bhp to the rear tyres, for a 0-62mph dash in just 3.9 seconds. Remarkably, its chassis and brakes are able to exploit all this performance to perfection, for a truly addictive experience.

With an impressive switch between comfort and focus when you change its driving modes, the Type R delivers serious thrills on the road or track.

About the car…

  • Cash price: £22,350

When Kia decided to take on the likes of Audi, BMW and Mercedes, the Kia Stinger was the resulting model. Long and sleek like a saloon, but with the added practicality of a hatchback, the Stinger is unlike anything else from the brand. For a start, it’s rear-wheel drive, and it was engineered from the outset to serve up excellent handling for keen drivers. Then there’s its 3.3-litre turbocharged petrol V6 with an impressive 361bhp. Not only does this serve up a smooth soundtrack, but it also gets it from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds.

Ford has a reputation for making fun-to-drive cars, and its Puma ST is no exception, sitting somewhere between a small SUV and a hot hatchback, and now available for under £20k.

It might just look like a brightly coloured small SUV, but the honeycomb grille, gunmetal alloy wheels and big-bore exhaust pipe are all signs the Puma ST is something a bit special. It’s based on the same building blocks as the Ford Fiesta ST, with similarly sharp suspension and the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine boasting 197bhp. It’s fantastic to drive as a result, with grin-inducing handling and a quick-witted manual gearbox. Unlike the Fiesta, there’s also quite a bit of room in the back and the boot, making this the ideal candidate for your only car.

Carbuyer wildcard: Nissan Fairlady Z (350Z): £7,995

Nissan 350Z

For just under £8,000 you could get your hands on a Nissan Fairlady Z (known as the 350Z in the UK) that’s on its way to becoming a future classic with just 50,800 miles, and backed up by the AA’s Dealer Promise.

About the deal…

About the car…

  • Cash price: £7,990
  • 50,800 miles on an 04-plate
  • Future classic
  • Smooth V6 engine
  • ULEZ friendly

While the latest Nissan Z sports car hasn’t made it to the UK, its ancestor, the 350Z can still be had on the used market at a bargain price. It’s hard to believe the Nissan 350Z is over 20 years old, as its simple lines and proportions don’t look terribly out of place today – that’s helped by the fact that its successor, the 370Z looked very similar and stayed in production up until 2020. This example is a Fairlady Z – as it was known in Japan – that’s been imported, meaning that rust is less likely to be an issue, and the automatic gearbox will make it more accessible for those that like to rest their left foot. It comes with a six-month warranty, and the dealer has signed the AA’s Dealer Promise, which ensures certain standards are met for the vehicle on sale, and that a minimum of six months’ MOT is offered, and the car can be fully test driven and inspected.

Carbuyer wildcard: Suzuki Swift Sport

Suzuki Swift Sport dynamic

  • Cash price: £8,638

What if we told you there’s a modern-looking, compact and revvy hot supermini with a naturally aspirated engine that can return well over 40mpg and give you a grin from ear to ear? That’s exactly the case with the Suzuki Swift Sport, and following the news that the latest Suzuki Swift won’t even get a pocket-rocket version, this 2016 model could even be a collector’s car one day. Cheap to run and maintain, this generation of Swift Sport has a loyal following, so it’s easy to share information with owners and even pick up aftermarket parts if you want to make your car unique.

Carbuyer wildcard: Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered

Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered

It won’t be for everyone, but Volvo’s take on the sports saloon formula makes for an interesting left-field choice in 2024.

About the deal…

About the car…

  • Monthly payments: 47 x £348.17
  • Deposit: £4,000
  • APR: 11.9%
  • Cash price: £25,110
  • Total payable: £32,806.49

A 400bhp sports saloon from Volvo? That may be hard to believe in 2024, but a flash of madness in 2020 saw the S60 Polestar Engineered come to fruition. Polestar – yes, the same Polestar that builds posh EVs today – took the impressive but rather mundane S60 saloon and tuned its plug-in hybrid powertrain to deliver 400bhp. To handle the added turn of speed, there are bigger brakes and manually-adjustable suspension from Ohlins, plus a smattering of gold styling accents. Sure, it doesn’t deliver the same engaging driving experience as a BMW M3, but the Volvo is quick, capable and surprisingly efficient, and feels a lot more unique.
